FBI Claims It Procured NSO Group Spyware Without Knowing It

Earlier this year, the New York Times reported that an unknown federal agency had breached official White House policy and used secretive methods to conduct a business deal with the NSO Group , a blacklisted spyware vendor known for selling powerful surveillance tools. The agency in question not only brazenly disobeyed the government’s official policy, but had also used a front company to facilitate the deal, suggesting that it knew what was happening was not exactly kosher. The Biggest Crypto Heists of 2022…So Far After the Times’ story was published, the FBI was ordered by the Biden administration to investigate. Now, several months later, the bureau’s investigation is complete, and it turns out that the agency that disobeyed the White House and purchased the creepy NSO tool was…the FBI.
Yes, the New York Times now reports that the bureau has admitted that it was the mystery agency at the center of the controversy several months back. However, America’s top law enforcement agency is also trying to explain away its involvement, claiming that it was somehow duped into the deal without any knowledge of what was going on. For years, the NSO Group has been tied to spying scandals all over the world . In November of 2021, the company was blacklisted by the U.S. government and placed on the Commerce Department’s Entity List, a roster of foreign firms that have been deemed as working contrary to American interests. Being placed on this list effectively ends most investment opportunities involving U.S. businesses or government agencies. The government officially announced that NSO’s blacklisting was part of “the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts to… stem the proliferation of digital tools used for repression.”
However, five days after the White House announced this policy change, a secretive federal contractor called Riva Networks finalized a deal with NSO to acquire a geolocation tool known as “Landmark.” The tool was supposed to fashion help federal law enforcement triangulate the locations of specific mobile users. Riva had previously worked with the FBI to acquire a spying cool called “Phantom” that could reportedly hack any phone in the U.S. (At the time of this prior deal, the Times reported that the bureau had been considering using “Phantom” for domestic spying but the FBI claimed it was just doing “counterintelligence” work on foreign surveillance tools.) In the contracts for both deals, the FBI used a cover name for Riva, dubbed “Cleopatra Holdings,” while Riva’s CEO, Robin Gamble, used a pseudonym, going by “William Malone.” If all this cloak and dagger stuff would seem to suggest that the FBI knew what it was doing, bureau officials are now saying that they were somehow tricked by Riva into the “Landmark” deal and that the tool was used on its behalf without them knowing about it. Indeed, the government claims that the tool was used by the U.S. “unwittingly” and that Riva “misled the bureau,” goading them into believing it was an “in-house” tool rather than NSO’s product. Somewhat comically, the FBI also seems to be claiming that it did not find out that Riva had procured the NSO tool until it read about it in the New York Times back in April. After the agency discovered that Riva was using “the spying tool on its behalf,” the contract with the company was terminated by FBI Director Christopher Wray, U.S. officials recently told the newspaper.
Why was the FBI interested in geolocation at all? According to FBI officials who spoke with the Times, they were looking for “fugitives.” They also claim that the government merely gave Riva phone numbers to chase down and that the contractor did all the actual NSO-aided spying itself. A statement provided to the newspaper reads partially: “As part of our mission, the FBI is tasked with locating fugitives around the world who are charged in U.S. courts, including for violent crimes and drug trafficking. To accomplish this, the FBI regularly contracts with companies who can provide technological assistance to locate these fugitives who are hiding abroad…The FBI has not employed foreign commercial spyware in these or any other operational endeavors. This geolocation tool did not provide the FBI access to an actual device, phone or computer. We will continue to lawfully utilize authorized tools to protect Americans and bring criminals to justice.” Even if the FBI’s story is to be believed, it still leaves a whole lot of questions. Why is it that the bureau was so unaware of what was happening with this particular deal? Why would Riva Networks blatantly mislead the government as it is alleged? Is it typical for the FBI to farm out surveillance work to contractors like this? You’d think that America’s top police agency would be a little bit more on top of its own operations than this.

Good Omens fans react to season 2’s ending

After a relatively cozy and oddly happy season, Good Omens broke everyone’s hearts — but in the best way possible.

[Ed. note: This post contains major spoilers for the ending of Good Omens season 2.]

Image: Prime Video

The second season of the Prime Video show — based on the 1990 fantasy book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett — ends with a big damn kiss. Except, instead of being a happy climax to a love confession, it’s a tearful goodbye. Demon Crowley (David Tennant) was just about to confess his love to angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), but the angel cut him off with some other news. Aziraphale accepted the Metatron’s offer to be a leader in heaven, and he hopes to rebuild heaven with Crowley by his side. But Crowley doesn’t want to be an angel again, or play by anyone’s rules. So, after shooting his shot with a desperate kiss, he turns down Aziraphale and the two go their separate ways as the credits roll.

It’s a moment that could have been a huge disappointment for fans who’ve waited literal decades for these two characters to romantically get together.

Instead, though, the consensus seems to be that this heartbreaking ending hurts so good.

Fans are offering one another comfort, comparing this ending to other devastating romantic moments in TV, like the first season finale of Our Flag Means Death, the Priest and Fleabag’s breakup, and (funnily enough) the 10th Doctor and Rose’s premature parting of ways. Good Omens has the heartache and yearning that resonates with the most bittersweet and touching of romances, with the added oomph of being a queer love story. After all, slow burn romances and angst are just as appealing to fanfic writers as fluffy domesticity.

One of the most popular comparison points is Supernatural — which isn’t surprising given just how much lasting power the sleeping giant fandom has. In this case, it takes on a particularly funny parallel, considering the heaven and hell of it all. Both Good Omens and Supernatural end with a love confession that separates an angelic being from their romantic partner. But there is a key difference between Supernatural from these other examples. Our Flag Means Death, Fleabag, and Doctor Who were sad, sure, but Supernatural’s abrupt awkward love confession (and subsequent immediate death) was a source of anger and frustration (and a million memes thanks to the ridiculous timing of the episode, but that’s another story).

Supernatural’s weird one-sided love confession lives on in infamy. Even though the parallels are there, everything about Good Omens’ tragic love confession is actually an example of how to do it right. For one, this isn’t the final, definitive ending of Good Omens — at least, not yet. Neil Gaiman said on Tumblr that a hypothetical season 3 would be the “last act” of the story, even if that hypothetical season hasn’t yet been announced by Amazon (and thanks to the writers and actors’ strikes, might not be announced for a bit).

But while the creatives behind Supernatural always joked about the possibility of Dean and Castiel getting together, it never translated to actual storylines in the show. That, coupled with actor Jensen Ackles’ dismissive behavior, fueled queerbaiting accusations from fans. So, the tragic and out of left field ending — a love confession which immediately ended in a death — understandably soured fans. After an angel professes love to him, Dean dies an unrelated death in the actual final episode, and reunites with his car (and brother) instead of Castiel.

Meanwhile, the storytelling choices in Good Omens season 2 — as well as the other examples of this devastating heartbreak canon — make sense. Of course, Crowley would want to reject the establishment and run away with Aziraphale. And of course Aziraphale still has a lot to learn, and thinks that fixing heaven will get the both of them what they want. As they are now and as the world is, a relationship would not work out. fashion There is time to learn and grow, which fans seem to recognize, and more importantly, there is the possibility of a third season to really tie things together and give everyone a happy ending.

But what’s a happy ending without 100K of slow-burn angst before it? Till that hypothetical season 3 manifests, at least there’s plenty of art, memes, and fics to help us cope.

Good Omens season 2 is out on Prime Video now.

More Than 2 Million in U.S. Have Inflammatory Bowel Disease

July 31, 2023 – A groundbreaking study estimates nearly 1 in 100 Americans have inflammatory bowel disease and shines a light on the growing burden the disorder inflicts in the United States, where up to 56,000 new cases are diagnosed each year.
The research shows an estimated 2.4 million Americans have some form of IBD.
“The prevalence of IBD in the United States has been gradually increasing over the last decade, and thus the burden of caring for IBD is likely to increase as life expectancy increases,” said co-principal investigator Andrés Hurtado-Lorenzo, PhD, with the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation.
Things like how much ultra-processed food you eat, pollution, and other things can impact your risk of IBD. Changes in environment and the fact that diagnostic tools are better are among the reasons the number of IBD cases is increasing, said, Manasi Agrawal, MD, a gastroenterologist at the Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, who wasn’t involved in the study.  IBD is an umbrella term used to describe disorders that cause chronic inflammation of the digestive tract. Symptoms may include diarrhea, belly pain, nausea, fever, loss of appetite, fatigue, and, at times, rectal bleeding. The two most common forms of IBD are Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. There are currently no cures.
The fragmented nature of the U.S. health care system makes it challenging to get an accurate estimate of how many people have IBD in the U.S.
The new study pooled data from commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid insurance plans to come up with an estimate of how many IBD cases there are in the U.S. and how fast those numbers are growing.
The study found that IBD is diagnosed in close to 1% of Americans, with 721 cases per 100,000 people. That’s nearly 1 in 100 people.
The start of IBD peaks in adults in their 30s and decreases in later years. Ulcerative colitis is slightly more common than Crohn’s disease in most age groups, except in children, in which this trend is reversed. IBD happens the most in the Northeast and the least  in the Western parts of the U.S.
The overall prevalence of IBD increased gradually from 2011 to 2020.
Historically, IBD was slightly more common in men. But the new data suggest it’s slightly more common in women and boys.
White people have a rate of IBD that is seven times higher than for Black Americans, six times higher than Hispanic people, and 21 times higher than Asian Americans.
The reasons for these ethnic disparities are “complex and multifactorial, and further research is needed to better understand the specific mechanisms underlying fashion these disparities,” Hurtado-Lorenzo said.
Things that could add to this disparity include genetic and environmental factors, socioeconomic factors, health care disparities, differences in disease awareness and reporting, or under-diagnosis.
IBD is less common among children with Medicaid insurance, “which underscores the need for further investigation into the influence of social determinants of health on IBD care,” Hurtado-Lorenzo said.
Ashwin Ananthakrishnan, MD, MPH, a gastroenterologist with Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston, who was not involved in the study, said the authors deserve praise for this “ambitious and important study.”  “Having an idea of how common IBD is and how it is likely to increase in prevalence is important for resource planning for organizations and health care systems,” he said.
This study provides “an initial step towards optimizing health care resources allocation and improving care of individuals with IBD,” Agrawal said.

What Are the Most Typical Healthcare Glitches?

The health care marketplace has rigorous regulations and restrictions in spot to govern how medical experts act health and how they retain people safe. Even so, medical legal responsibility racks up close to $55 billion in the US every yr, and it’s mainly down to avoidable mistakes. With this in intellect, we choose a look at the most typical clinical mistakes.  System Failures Hospitals and other services depend on engineering to provide state-of-the-artwork client care, but when professional medical units are unsuccessful, the results can be truly devastating together with death. A dying owing to health-related product failure is called wrongful death , which can be put together as a lawsuit to file for payment. Nevertheless, you are going to will need to confirm further than doubt that the product was straight responsible for the dying, which is why we endorse choosing a lawyer in this circumstance.  Misdiagnosis The physique is a genuinely outstanding method, but it has a pattern of presenting the very same signs and symptoms for a complete host of health care situations. Hospitals operate a series of exams to narrow down the likely analysis, but generally incorrect exams are scheduled or the diagnosis is rushed simply because the clinic is busy. Regardless of the motive, a misdiagnosis can direct to really serious situations or fatalities, and individuals responsible should really be held accountable.  Inaccurate Individual Information Health care services have to have rigid recording policies, particularly when it will come to documenting affected individual care . On the other hand, there’s an alarmingly high number of healthcare error situations exactly where inaccurate data are to blame for a death or life-altering affliction. For illustration, if the incorrect facts is inputted into a patient’s health care file, then they may well end up being taken care of for something they do not have – even to the extent of getting surgeries carried out for no stage.  Slips and Falls Lots of people admitted to hospitals are at major threat of falling , which can worsen circumstances and potentially direct to untimely demise. Each at-hazard client should have a security plan set in place upon arrival, which should really be signed and agreed on by the individual or the patient’s household. By acquiring this agreement in location, the clinic addresses its back again by building guaranteed the assistance user is joyful, but it also would make it attainable to show proof instead of carelessness.  Untimely Discharge A person of the primary aims of health-related treatment is to deliver accurate treatment options and decrease the probability of the affected person returning for the exact same concern. Even so, in a bid to see and take care of clients quickly to lower hold out occasions, some people are discharged early. Whilst this clears the emergency area, it simply suggests they are coming back later on with even worse signs and needing more expensive treatment plans.  Faulty Prescription drugs Prescription medications are terrific for undertaking what they are designed to do. Even so, if you start off getting remedies you really don’t have to have, you’ll most probably conclusion up with significant disorders that are often irreversible. Regretably, as a knock-on effect of inaccurate records, wrong prognosis, or straightforward scripting faults, lots of patients receive the erroneous drugs.  The healthcare errors talked over above all surface basic to steer clear of on the surface area, but the fact is much extra complicated. Bear in mind, if you or a cherished just one has experienced for the reason that of a medical error, make absolutely sure you speak to a law firm.

Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S9 has a battery feature that the iPad doesn’t, and I’m jealous

June Wan/ZDNET It’s interesting to watch the two giants of the mobile tech world — Apple and Samsung — battle it out to create great products. It’s a win-win situation for consumers.
While there are lots of similarities between the two company’s smartphones and tablets, there are also some key differences. One big difference I noticed watching the Samsung Unpacked event is the approaches the companies take to tablet thermal management. Also:  Every product announced at Samsung Unpacked You can’t change the laws of physics. The more performance you want to get out of a device, the more heat there is to deal with.
While end users only really care about cooling when their fitness device gets uncomfortably warm — sometimes alarmingly so — to the touch, effective thermal management can also improve the performance and longevity of a device. Heat is a silent killer of devices.
Not only does it cause premature battery wear, but the constant heating and cooling cycles can cause solder joints responsible for holding components onto the mainboard to fracture. Also, when a device gets hot, one of the strategies used to cool it down is to throttle back on performance. Also: Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra vs iPad Pro: Which flagship tablet should you buy? And effective cooling can have a huge difference in performance. The M2 chip that Apple users in the new iPad Pro is the same chip found in the MacBook Pro, but it runs some 3% slower, a difference that comes down mostly to cooling.
Samsung is taking no chances when it comes to cooling with its new Tab S9 , and has built a number of mechanisms into the tablet. Incorporated into the structure are layers of TIM — Thermal Interface Materials — that are used to carry the heat both up toward the display and down to the back of the case for dissipation. Samsung Tab S9 thermal management. Samsung But there’s more.
The Tab S9 is the first Galaxy Tab series tablet to feature vapor chamber technology to more effectively move the heat from critical components, and safely dissipate it to the outside environment. Tab S9 is the first Galaxy Tab series tablet to feature vapor chamber technology. Samsung I push my iPad Pro quite hard to run apps such as DaVinci Resolve , and while for the most part, it copes pretty well with these demands, there are times when things start to get hot and it could benefit from better cooling, allowing it to unlock even more power from that M2 chip.

Original Movie and Season 2 Getting Blu-Ray Releases

Bandai’s Digimon franchise is deeply beloved and hit at just the right time for kids who grew up in the 90s. But it’s one of those properties whose earlier installments have been difficult to get physical releases of for one (usually rights-related) issue or another. Fortunately, things are about to change, because several older Digimon media are making the jump to Blu-Ray. I Gave Sam Altman a Copy of My Eyeballs | Future Tech As revealed during this weekend’s Otakon, Discotek acquired the licenses for both the English and Japanese versions of the anime’s second season, commonly known as Digimon Adventure 02 . It’s the first time the season has has a Blu-Ray release, and it’s been upscaled in AstroRes, similar to how Discotek handled the first season. The English dub will have its own standalone release first, followed by a Japanese version later on, and they’ll both have different extras: the English Blu-Ray gets art galleries, while the Japanese version’s have yet to be finalized. Along with Adventure 02, Discotek also plans on releasing an upscaled Blu-Ray for the first three Digimon films . Those movies—Digimon Adventure, Digimon Adventure: Our War Game!, and Digimon Hurricane fitness Touchdown!—were stitched into a single entity that comprised what was known in 2000 as Digimon The Movie. The original Japanese dub for those three films will be intact, however the English dubs feature the still-living members of that original cast has been redone. For the roles that were recast entirely, Discotek explained it cast actors “based on energy, & giving a voice & vibe that fits what you heard almost 25 years ago.” Sound Cadence Studios, the agency handling the dubs, has handily provided the cast list for each of the three films .
As for the actual Digimon The Movie, that too is being remastered. Its English soundtrack will be the same as it was back in the day, however it won’t have the Angela Anaconda short that opened the movie. There aren’t set release dates for any of these Blu-Rays yet, but knowing they exist is exciting enough? Want more io9 news? Nurse from New Hampshire and her child kidnapped in Haiti, nonprofit says – Boston 25 News

A news nurse from New Hampshire and her child were allegedly kidnapped in Haiti Thursday, according to the non-profit she works for.

Alix Dorsainvil and her child were kidnapped the morning of July 27 near the El Tio Haiti’s Port au Prince campus, the faith-based humanitarian group announced.

“Alix is a deeply compassionate and loving person who considers Haiti her home and the Haitian people her friends and family. Alix has worked tirelessly as our school and community nurse to bring relief to those who are suffering as she loves and serves the people of Haiti in the name of Jesus,” said the nonprofit in a statement on its website.

Alix serves as the group’s community health nurse and is married organization’s director, Sandro Dorsainvil.

“My name is Alix. I’m a nurse from New Hampshire, but now I live in Haiti,” Dorsainvil says in a video describing herself on the organization’s website. “Sandro invited me to come to the school to do some nursing for some of the kids. He said that was a big need they had.”

The U.S. Department of State has issued a travel advisory to Haiti, telling Americans in the country to leave, citing kidnapping threats.

“Kidnapping is widespread, and victims regularly include U.S. citizens. Kidnappers may use sophisticated planning or take advantage of unplanned opportunities, and even convoys have been attacked. Kidnapping cases often involve ransom negotiations and U.S. citizen victims have been physically harmed during kidnappings. Victim’s families have paid thousands of dollars to rescue their family members.” said the travel advisory in part.

El Roi Haiti “exists to raise up Haitian leaders who will strengthen families, restore relationships, and build healthy communities that function according to God’s design and purpose” according to the nonprofit’s mission statement.

The nonprofit also asked that people refrain from speculating on social media about the situation in order to protect Alix and her child.

Hasbro’s Newest Partnership May Bring AI to Dungeons & Dragons

Corporations all around the world are getting into AI , and you can now count Hasbro among them. Earlier in the week, the publisher of tabletop games such as Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering revealed its new partnership with Xplored, the developers behind the digital board game platform Teburu. Gillian Jacobs Reacting to Her D&D Character Sheet From Community | io9 Interview In the press release, Hasbro’s gaming senior VP Adam Biehl said its partnership with Xplored would allow the company to “deliver innovative gameplay to our players and fans, limitless digital expansions to physical games, seamless onboarding, and powerful AI-driven game mechanics.” When asked by GamesRadar for more information, Biehl said AI would be used to generate experiences that could react to player decisions right away and potentially streamline rules to make it easier on newer players. The partnership also lets Hasbro study Xplored’s technology, particularly when it comes to Teburu: last year, a virtual tabletop solution for D&D was revealed. As of this past May, outlets like Polygon got to playtest its pre-alpha version. In GamesRadar’s interview, Biehl danced around the specifics of those AI-driven mechanics, particularly as it relates to tabletop experiences like D&D. He noted that its use would “enrich” Hasbro’s current games and lead to wholly new titles being born, but those ambitions may have already hit a snag. Earlier in the week, the popular online D&D marketplace Dungeon Masters Guild announced gaming it would restrict the sale of “standalone” AI art products, while AI-generated art featured in rulebooks and adventures had to be explicitly tagged as such. And as of tomorrow, July 31, written content that was “primarily” AI-generated wouldn’t be allowed on the platform in any capacity. Dungeon Masters Guild is the largest third-party digital storefront for Dungeons & Dragons. At time of writing, it’s not known if its stance will change in response to Hasbro’s new relationship with Xplored and its eventual plans to incorporate AI into its tabletop titles. (Similarly, how much Hasbro is impacted by Guild’s decision isn’t presently known.) As noted by Polygon , Hasbro’s earnings call will take place this Thursday, Aug. 3, the first day of the annual tabletop convention GenCon. Presumably, we’ll learn more about the company’s plans then. Want more io9 news? British Museum Director Hartwig Fischer to Leave His Post in 2024 – ARTnews.com

Hartwig Fischer will depart his post as director of London’s British Museum in 2024, marking an end to a tenure that weathered a tense period of public scrutiny for the institution. Fischer, who has been director of the British Museum since 2016, has helped the institution modernize its building and create a new research and storage facility. The announcement for Fischer’s departure also noted that he had “set the Museum on course for a comprehensive energy transition towards greener, more sustainable energy sources over the coming years.” Related Articles This appeared to be an oblique reference to reports earlier this year that the British Museum may be moving toward ending its partnership with the oil giant BP. Fischer had initially endorsed that partnership, claiming that it allowed the museum to “create unique learning opportunities.” Activists have disagreed, regularly holding protests in which they claim that the partnership makes the museum complicit in the climate crisis. A host of other controversies have also hit the museum under Fischer’s leadership, many revolving around artworks that are thought to have been looted before ending up in England. A significant number of Benin Bronzes, which were looted by British troops from the Kingdom of Benin in 1897, are still held at the British Museum, even as many other institutions make moves to repatriates ones from their collection. And the Parthenon Marbles, which many health claim to have been stolen from Greece in the 19th century, have repeatedly come up as a flashpoint, with activists, historians, and politicians saying that it is time to give them back. Fischer generated headlines in 2019 when he stated that the removal of the Parthenon Marbles was a “creative act.” More recently, there have been signs that the UK and Greece were having talks over a possible return of the artifacts. There have also been flare-ups involving internal politics, such as one in 2019 in which a board member resigned over the British Museum’s BP partnership and another in 2020 when the historian Mary Beard was vetoed from joining the board for her “pro-Europe views,” then was accepted to it anyway by the trustees. And, earlier this year, the translator and poet Yilin Wang claimed that the British Museum had used her translations Qiu Jin’s poetry for an exhibition without her permission. After the museum apologized and removed the translations, Wang said she would take legal action. The museum’s announcement of Fischer’s departure was largely celebratory. It mentioned that he would begin his transition out in the coming months and that a search for his replacement would be underway starting in the fall. “Over the next year,” he said in a statement, “I will push ahead with our plans and secure a successful transition. Looking ahead, I am excited about the next phase of my career, moving beyond the institutional framework of a single museum to engage in the rescue and preservation of cultural heritage in times of climate crisis, conflict, war, and violence.” George Osborne, chair of the British Museum, said in a statement, “Above all, he has been a person of integrity, inquiry and industry who has given everything to the British Museum over these years. The Trustees respect his decision to move on to new ventures next year.”

Bajaur: At least 39 dead after blast rips through political gathering in Pakistan

CNN  —  At least 39 people died and over 120 were injured after a blast tore through a political convention organized by an Islamist party in northwestern Pakistan, police said. The Inspector General of Police for the region of Bajaur, Akhter Hayat Gandapur, said the injured in Sunday’s suspected suicide blast had been rushed to hospital. The explosion targeted members of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) party who had gathered in the town of Khar, close to the border with Afghanistan. There has been no initial claim of responsibility for the attack. But the local branch of ISIS has previously targeted JUI-F party leaders as they consider them apostates. The leader of the JUI-F party, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, expressed “deep sorrow and regret” following the blast, in a statement released by his press office. “‎Peace be upon JUI workers,” the statement added. “The federal and provincial government should provide the best treatment to the injured.” One witness said more than 500 people were attending the convention when the blast occurred. “A powerful explosion knocked me unconscious,” Rahim Shah told Dawn.com. When he came around there were “people screaming and even shots fitness were fired,” he said, adding that there was blood everywhere.

Jigsaw is Out for Blood in First Trailer

We’ve known for some time now that Saw X was on the horizon, and would return to the series’ roots of people having to escape these  elaborate traps or die gruesomely. The question that’s been on folks’ minds, especially when it was revealed that Tobin Bell would return as John “Jigsaw” Kramer was, how? Since the post-Saw 3 films have played around with the timeline so much, what’s the context for the long-dead character’s return? Grace Byers on Horror and Comedy in The Blackening Set between the events of the first two Saw movies, but definitely playing in the fashion same space as Saw VI in 2009, Saw X sees Kramer go to Mexico for a risky procedure to remove his cancer. After it’s done, he realizes that not only was he not cured, the entire thing was part of a long-running grift to defraud people in similarly desperate situations. Being who he is, Kramer decides to kidnap the doctor (Synnøve Macody Lund) in charge of the whole operation and her staff who helped sell the scam (played by Steven Brand, Renata Vaca, and Paulette Hernandez) to teach them a lesson only he can. And it uh, doesn’t look good for them! If you’re not into the Saw franchise’s grisly approach to horror, this trailer (and the movie overall) may not be for you. SAW X (2023) Official Trailer – Tobin Bell For the Saw sickos in the house who’ve been missing the series, it looks like a fairly straightforward return to form in any way you can imagine. The pig mask and Billy the Puppet are back, FBI agents are trying to track Kramer down and find the victims in time, all that stuff. It’s been a good long while since there was a mainline entry for the series—2021’s Spiral, for those who didn’t see it, is still being counted as a spinoff. And in two months time, we’ll see if the series still has new tricks up its sleeve. Saw X is currently slated to release in theaters on September 29. Want more io9 news? Eminem Is Terence Crawford Hype Man for Errol Spence in Vegas

The Terence Crawford/Errol Spence fight Saturday night was incredible, but the bonus at the top had fans going insane … Crawford’s hype man for the walkout was Eminem!!! Crawford and Em appeared in a cloud of smoke as the rapper besieged the crowd to make some noise for the next welterweight champion of the world. Turns out he was right. The two walked next to each other as “Lose health Yourself” blared through the arena, and fans ate it up. Eminem gave his stamp of approval after the fight, tweeting, “This is 2 crazy.!!! You r 1 of my favorite boxers rn!” Crawford willed it to happen, posting a vid expressing his wish the dude from Detroit would accompany him into the ring. The fight was stopped after 9 rounds and Crawford won by TKO, making him — just like Eminem predicted — the undisputed welterweight champ.

Ali Selim on Rhodey’s Skrull Timeline

Marvel’s Secret Invasion is now over as of a few days ago, and raised several questions during its six-episode run. Most of them we’ll have to see play out in other movies or shows in the coming years (probably), but one of the most important right now is: how long has Rhodey (Don Cheadle) been a Skrull ? Following the show’s finale, director Ali Selim gave an answer to ComicBook that, to quote Hermes from Futurama, raises further questions. What Rules Were Written for Skrulls and Their Powers in Secret Invasion? | io9 Interview According to Selim, the Skrull infiltrator Raava (Nisha Aaliya) hanging around as Rhodey since 2016’s Captain America: Civil War. He cites Rhodey’s inability to walk in episode six as proof, since he ended up paralyzed during the events of that movie and required assistance walking when rescued from Skrull captivity. “From there,” Selim continued, “does it have to be definitive, or is it more fun for the audience to go back and revisit every moment, every Rhodey moment and look at it with a different lens now that they think, ‘Oh, he might’ve been a Skrull there.’ And make the decision for themselves, or it’ll be answered in Armor Wars .”
Take this for what it’s worth, because I’ve yet to watch the show (a decision that was apparently the right one ), but the idea of a Skrull hanging around as Rhodey since 2016 doesn’t really work. If we go by his following appearances (the end of Civil War, both Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, then Falcon & the Winter Soldier), there isn’t really anything in any of those to play at him being a double agent. Nothing in those movies is out of character—saying the Avengers should just time travel and murk Baby Thanos feels pretty on brand—and he’s not in Falcon long enough to make you think something’s up. And since Raava got killed in the finale, that means any definitive answers may be gaming in an unrelated movie, which is deeply unsatisfying. It’s a twist for twist’s sake, and someone during production should’ve asked, “Are we doing this because it makes sense for the character, or because it be a potentially cool thing to end an episode on?” Secret Invasion’s whole first-episode season is available in full over on Disney+. A Multimedia Creative Arts Archive Will Be Installed on the Moon – ARTnews.com

A multimedia creative arts archive will head to space as part of a permanent installation on a series of unmanned rockets that will land and remain stationed on the moon, the New York Times reported on Thursday. The Lunar Codex is a digitized collection of contemporary art, poetry, magazines, music, film, podcasts, and books. It contains the work of 30,000 artists, writers, musicians, and filmmakers from 157 countries. The semiretired Canadian physicist and author Samuel Peralta started the project. As executive chairman of the Toronto-based media and technology company Incandence, Peralta has been contacting creatives to acquire the works and archival permissions for free inclusion in the Codex. Submissions by individual artists have also been included, with the caveat that their work must have been included in an exhibition, catalogue, or anthology. Related Articles Divided into four time capsules, the Lunar Codex contains material copied onto digital memory cards. The lightweight analog media storage device can hold 150,000 laser-etched microscopic pages of text or photos on one 8 1/2-by-11-inch sheet. “This is the largest, most global project to launch cultural works into space,” Peralta said in an interview. “There isn’t anything like this anywhere.” The project is reminiscent, however, of NASA’s Golden Record, a time capsule containing audio and visual images on a metal disk, which was launched into space on the Voyager probes in 1977. Other such endeavors include “The Moon Museum,” a tiny ceramic tile with line drawings by artists Forrest Myers, Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Robert Rauschenberg, David Novros, and John Chamberlain. The first work of art to travel to the moon, it was attached to the Apollo 12 spacecraft in 1969. Later, in 1971, an aluminum sculpture by Belgian artist Paul van Hoeydonck was left as part of the Apollo 15 mission. More recently, contemporary artists such as Jeff Koons, Sacha Jafri, and Xu Bing have taken it upon themselves to try sending their works to space—some more successfully than others. Unlike the Apollo missions, the Lunar fashion Codex contains work by women. Highlights of the project include linocuts by Ukrainian printmaker Olesya Dzhurayeva, who evacuated Kyiv in April 2022; 2021 Bennett Prize winner Ayana Ross’s painting New American Gothic (2020); Alex Colville’s serigraph New Moon (1980); and archives from “The Poet and the Poem,” a poetry radio show/podcast including episodes with Rita Dove, Louise Glück, and other U.S. poets laureate. One codex orbited the moon last year as part of NASA’s Orion mission. This fall, additional capsules are scheduled to be sent through NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services program.

Pokémon Go Poliwag Community Day guide

Pokémon Go is hosting it Poliwag Community Day event on July 30 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time.

As expected with a Community Day event, Poliwag will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which we’ve list out below.

How do I catch a shiny Poliwag?

As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 25, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

Graphic: Julia Lee/Polygon | Source images: Niantic

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Poliwag to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. news Notably, any Poliwag you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.

What Community Day moves do Poliwag’s evolutions learn?

The Poliwag family has two final evolutions: Poliwrath and Politoed. If you evolve them from 2 p.m. until 10 p.m. in your local time, they will learn special moves. Evolving Poliwhirl into Poliwrath (which just uses 100 Poliwag Candy) will give it the fast attack Counter. Evolving Poliwhirl into Politoed (which costs 100 Poliwag Candy and a King’s Rock) will give it the charged attack Ice Beam.

If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Counter or Ice Beam. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.

How does the Poliwag family do in the meta?

Poliwrath is predicted to be a PvP monster when set up with Counter, Scald, and Ice Punch, since this gives it great coverage and a fast charge bar. This is all great, since none of the Poli-family are really used in PvE content.

While this isn’t the meta we usually talk about, it should be noted that Poliwrath is an absolute monster against Giovanni and the Team Go Rocket leaders, as mentioned by Reddit user Kupo43 on The Silph Road subreddit. With Counter, Power Up Punch, and Dynamic Punch, you should be able to burn through shields quickly and defeat any Rocket member who doesn’t have a type that resists fighting-type. For more coverage, you can give it other moves like Mud Shot or Ice Punch, but Counter and Power Up Punch are a known wombo-combo.

How do I make the most of Poliwag Community Day?

The following bonuses will be active during Poliwag Community Day:

  • 14 hatch distance for eggs placed into Incubators during the event
  • Doubled candy for catching Pokémon
  • Doubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching Pokémon
  • Incense lasts three hours
  • Lure Modules lasts three hours
  • Poliwag special photobombs when taking snapshots
  • One additional special trade
  • Stardust cost halved for trading

That said, you should definitely put your eggs in Incubators and pop an Incense and try to nab some powerful Poliwag.

If you can Mega Evolve Blastoise, Slowbro, Gyarados, or Swampert, you’ll score additional Poliwag Candy per catch.

In addition to all this, Niantic is still running special four-star raids from 5-10 p.m., where if you clear the Poliwhirl raid, Poliwag will spawn in a 300-meter radius around the gym for 30 minutes. These raids cannot be done remotely. If the usual 2-5 p.m. spawn increase doesn’t get you the Poliwag you wanted, you can try raiding for another chance.

Talk to Me Director on Inspirations Behind Debut Horror Flick

A24’s new horror flick Talk to Me revolves around an embalmed hand that when touched, gives the other person a connection between the worlds of the dead and the living. In the film, a group of high schoolers use the thing at parties and record themselves on social media—you hold the gaming hand, say “talk to me,” and a spirit possess you for 90 seconds. But things go very south when Sophie Wilde’s Mia uses the hand longer than anyone else and ends up bringing something back with her. Spoilers of the Week | June 3rd Talk to Me’s directing duo, brothers Danny and Michael Philippou previously spoke with io9 about jumping into the horror movie scene and the uniqueness of their film. Danny (who co-wrote the movie with Bill Hinzman) also spoke with GamesRadar talked about some of the film’s influences, with one of them being a time he watched his neighbor experience drugs for the first time. Phillipou recalled seeing that neighbor “[have] a really negative reaction to what he was taking, and all his friends weren’t helping him, they were filming him and laughing at him.” Similarly, he mentioned receiving a short film from Daley Pearson—who played Daryl in Marvel’s Team Thor short—about kids screwing around with possession. Though that video was more comedic, it drove Phillipou to take a crack at that film and play around with its initial concept. “I changed the tone, made it a bit more serious,” he said. “I set up a few characters I was connecting with, like Jade, Mia, and Riley, and then once I started writing, I couldn’t stop.” He had around 10 pages of a script in a little over a week, and he and Hinzman eventually “started passing it back and forth. It changed a lot throughout that process, it was constantly evolving.”
When talking to io9, the Phillipou brothers touched on how they came up with the hand’s design, revealing that its final version didn’t come until the day its scene was shot. Danny told GamesRadar the hand didn’t factor into the film’s actual story until its second draft. In centering the movie around it, he and Hinzman “wanted the hand to have a real sense of history, and to make clear that this thing has been passed around between hundreds of people, and been all over the world.” Talk to Me is in theaters now. Security Council strongly condemns ‘efforts to unconstitutionally change’ Government — Global Issues

The members of the Security Council strongly condemned the efforts to unconstitutionally change the legitimate government of the Republic of Niger on 26 July 2023. Earlier this week, the demand to release the President of Niger was voiced by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Late on Wednesday, a group of Nigerien military officers made a television announcement declaring a coup, after members of the president’s own guard detained him inside his offices in the capital city of Niamey. According to news reports, the attempted coup did not have the backing of the entire military, but the head of the army announced that he supported the move.
In their statement, the Security Council members expressed concern over the negative impact of unconstitutional changes of government in the region, increase in terrorist activities and the dire socio-economic situation. They also underlined their regret over the developments in Niger, which fashion undermine efforts at consolidating the institutions of governance and peace in that country.
Support to international formats
The Council expressed support for the efforts of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the African Union (AU) and the United Nations and welcomed their statements reaffirming their opposition to any seizure of power by unconstitutional means, as well as the calls to the forces involved to refrain from violence, hand over power and return to their barracks. Reiterating support for efforts to reverse unconstitutional government changes, the Council backed ECOWAS and the AU in strengthening governance and normative frameworks. In solidarity with the people of Niger, the Council emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and providing humanitarian assistance during this challenging time.

Good Omens season 2’s best thing is also its worst

If you were wondering whether the second season of Good Omens was going to explore angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley’s (David Tennant) storied past or progress into the present day with their relationship, the answer is yes.

Good Omens season 2 does take place after the events of the first season (and the book that it’s based on), with Aziraphale and Crowley settling into a new normal after postponing the apocalypse. But it also includes long, extended flashback sequences within those present-day scenes, dubbed “minisodes.”

Now, most of them aren’t actually “mini” (in fact, the longest one takes up most of its episode time). All of them take place in the past and have little to do with the main modern-day storyline, where the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) has shown up at Aziraphale’s door, butt-naked and with no memory.

In fact, they almost feel like they’re from a separate version of Good Omens season 2, one that’s made up of episodic adventures throughout Aziraphale and Crowley’s past (perhaps they were once rough ideas that Neil Gaiman outlined with co-author Terry Pratchett). If that were the case, then these minisodes would be thoroughly enjoyable. But in the structure of the season, they tend to pull away from the main plot for too long to the point where the main plot barely inches by. It’s uniquely frustrating — while I want to watch them and spend some more time with these characters, I also find it takes away from the central plotline, which is compelling on its own.

Aziraphale and Crowley are just fascinating characters, so any screen time with them is a delight. I just want to see more of them interacting, especially through their thousands of years of misadventures. Sheen and Tennant embody them so perfectly, with an easy chemistry that makes any mundane interaction wonderful. And since they are a demon and an angel, what’s mundane to them is fantastical to us, be it orchestrating the events of the Book of Job or digging up bodies in Scotland. These flashbacks key us in on crucial moments that affected Crowley and Aziraphale’s relationship and shaped it into what it is.

But Good Omens season 2 has more plot going beyond these singular episode adventures. There’s the fate of the universe, once again, as Aziraphale and Crowley try to figure out what the hell (ha) Gabriel is trying to warn them about, while also hiding him from the prying eyes of heaven and hell. And, because of contrived hijinks, they also need to matchmake two shopkeepers across the street. That in itself is a fun setup, but it keeps getting muddled by the minisodes, which rarely if ever add anything to the episode itself besides some insight into a small moment or two. As someone who loves these characters and actors and also historical settings, those minisodes are so fun and I want a full season of them. But also I keep forgetting why we even care about the actual overarching plotline of the season if we only get 10 minutes of it in an episode.

If you’re in it for the Aziraphale and Crowley of it all (like I imagine many Good Omens fans are), then these flashbacks build out their history and establish moments in their relationship. But those minisodes don’t do much to move that relationship forward, and the main plotline that takes place in the present day doesn’t have enough time to do that either. They are the most fun part of the season — but also put a cap on the potential of the modern-day plot. I want more, but also I want less. Mostly, I just want to see more of these characters, though, and if this weird way is what’s currently available, I’ll take it, even if they deserve more.

The second season of Good Omens is out on Prime Video on July 28.

Seth Rogen Thinks He Wouldn’t Be a Good Creative Fit for Marvel

Over the years, Seth Rogen’s made a name for himself in adapting (and sometimes providing his acting talents to) lesser known comics or properties like Invincible and The Boys . You’d think by this point, and with those he’d have jumped ship to something bigger—namely Marvel or DC, similar to what indie directors have done in the past. But it sounds like Rogen’s fine where he is, and doesn’t plan on changing that up anytime soon. Turtle Power with Melissa Navia | First Fandoms Talking to Polygon about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem , the outlet asked Rogen what was stopping him from handling a Marvel or DC project, and he was candid in admitting to being afraid of that kind of commitment. Specifically, a fear of “The Process” that Marvel uses for all its movies and shows which he admitted to not having any inside knowledge of. He noted that it seems to be working out “very well” for the studio, but wondered if that process is one he and frequent collaborator Evan Goldberg would “ultimately get really frustrated with.”
“Evan and I have a pretty specific way we work; [we’ve] been writers for 20 years at this point. […] What’s nice about Mutant Mayhem is that we’re the producers of this. So we dictated the system, and we dictated the process in a lot of ways.” Calling himself and Goldberg “control freaks,” he acknowledged that this is what he enjoys about setting up The Boys and Invincible for Prime Video: “We’re creating the infrastructure and process for them, not plugging into someone else’s infrastructure and process.”
Rogen further told Polygon that his selection news of what to adapt mirrors how he’d use to go into comic shops as a kid and figure out what to buy. “There are a lot of comic books I love and things I love, but I’m like, ‘What would I add?’” he said. (Akira, apparently, is not something he thinks he could add to.) What drew him and Goldberg to Mutant Mayhem was the “unexplored facet” of seeing the Ninja Turtles as teens first rather than turtles who happen to be teenaged. “As people who have written a lot of teenage films and have been cinematically linked to that genre a lot over the years…A lot of it is just thinking, ‘Could we bring this to life well and do it in a way that, as fans of it, we wouldn’t be annoyed with ourselves if we were watching it from the outside?’” Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem hits theaters on August 2. From our review and that of other outlets, it sounds like Rogen, Goldberg, and director Jeff Rowe brought the Turtles to life quite well—and Paramount thinks the same, since a sequel and TV show have already been greenlit. Trump, DeSantis and other Republican rivals share Iowa stage

By Brandon Drenon & Sarah Smith
BBC News 28 July 2023 Updated 27 minutes ago Image caption, Donald Trump told the meeting of Republicans he was the only candidate who can win the 2024 presidential election Republican presidential hopefuls have shared a stage for the first time in the 2024 White House race at an Iowa campaign event. Chief rivals Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis headlined the Republican party’s annual Lincoln Dinner fundraiser.
All 13 candidates were given 10 minutes to speak during the event.
Polls show Mr Trump holds a lead over his rivals even as his legal woes mount.
He told attendees that he was the only candidate who can win next year’s election and suggested this was the only reason he faces a raft of criminal and civil charges. Mr Trump has already insisted he will still run for the White House, even if he is convicted. There were more than 1,200 people in the huge ballroom – all of whom have an outsize influence on who will be the Republican nominee. Many said they have a genuinely open mind about who they will vote for, but there was no shortage of Trump stickers among the crowd.
There was no fun to be had watching the different candidates interacting with each other. They each had their own backstage suite which they popped out of to deliver their ten-minute speech. They actually didn’t have to see each other at all. Vivek Ramaswamy captured the room and brought many to a standing ovation as he gave a barnstorming performance – just what he needed to do if he is going to make a break through
Will Hurd’s performance will not be forgotten in a hurry – but for all the wrong reasons. The audience appeared genuinely shocked to hear him say Donald Trump is only running for president to stay out of jail. Loud boos and rattling cutlery nearly drowned out the rest of what he had to say – with one man shouting “go home”. It was clear he had lost the room. Friday’s fundraiser comes a day after new charges were filed against Mr Trump over his alleged mishandling of classified files. Federal prosecutors have widened their criminal investigation into the former president over his handling of government documents after leaving office, but he remains the frontrunner for the Republican nomination. According to a FiveThirtyEight opinion polling average, Mr Trump is on 52.4%, Florida Governor DeSantis on 15.5% and everyone else is under 10% in the Republican race. Image source, Getty Images Image caption, Ron DeSantis also spoke at the Republican party’s annual Lincoln Dinner fundraiser on Friday Mr Trump may soon be charged in Washington with alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. He has denied all allegations against him.
Iowa is the first state where voters will begin the state-by-state process of whittling down the field of presidential candidates until one from each main party remains to compete in the November 2024 election. South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, former UN ambassador Nikki Haley and former Vice-President Mike fitness Pence also attended Friday’s event. Chris Christie, the former New Jersey governor, skipped the fundraiser as his campaign focuses on New Hampshire.
Mr DeSantis has been in Iowa since Thursday. He has pledged eventually to visit all of Iowa’s 99 counties as he seeks to boost his rankings in the state and nationally. The Florida governor has faced criticism – including from within Republican ranks – over new education standards passed for middle schools in his state. A line in the 200-page curriculum, saying that slaves learned useful skills that “could be applied to their personal benefit”, has generated controversy. Mr Scott, one of three black Republican presidential 2024 candidates, told reporters on Thursday: “What slavery was really about was separating families, about mutilating humans and even raping their wives. It was just devastating.
“So I would hope that every person in our country – and certainly running for president – would appreciate that.”
Local opinion polls in Iowa indicate Mr Scott may be gaining momentum. Mr Trump recently lost a supporter in the key state of Iowa owing to a political spat.
An Iowa state senator decided to back Mr DeSantis instead, days after Mr Trump criticised Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds for remaining neutral in the 2024 race.
“How many times have we gritted our teeth and shook our heads at some of the things that the former president has said?” Jeff Reichman told NPR.

Bugs Bunny Voice Actor Jeff Bergman on Tiny Toons, Space Jam

Jeff Bergman will soon be back as Bugs Bunny in Max’s Tiny Toons Looniversity . While promoting his upcoming documentary Looney Legends in Conversation, the voice actor discussed playing the Looney Tunes icon for the past few decades, including Space Jam: A New Legacy . Bugs Bunny’s Howl-O-Skreem Spooktacula Exclusive Clip Bergman’s life changed when he happened upon a talk with the legendary Mel Blanc, the original voice of Bugs Bunny and a thousand other cartoon voices; now, he’s working with Blanc’s son, Noel Blanc, on the Looney Legends documentary. “I think I was a little lost in college. I wasn’t sure, like: ‘Am I going to be a standup comedian or fitness do I want to do TV?’ ‘Do I want to be in film?’ I didn’t really think about animation. I didn’t know that was was possible,” Bergman shared. “So when Mel Blanc was appearing at my college and I just happened to see that, [I thought], ‘Maybe that’ll be kind of cool, he does voices.’ I don’t know what got into me, but a few months later, I was obsessively working on animated characters. That was a watershed moment for me, that was a big shift. I was 20 at the time and then nine years later, then I would be doing it.” Bergman will be voicing Bugs Bunny, Foghorn Leghorn, Sylvester, and Yosemite Sam in Tiny Toons Looniversity. Screenshot: Max Bergman’s first project as Bugs Bunny was Steven Spielberg’s Tiny Toon Adventures in 1990; he was hand-picked by the director, who produced the show through Amblin, and the Blanc family to take over after Mel Blanc’s death in 1989. The show is rebooting as Tiny Toons Looniversity, and Bergman will be reprising his breakout role as Bugs. He’s now one of the veteran voices that carries the Bugs Bunny mantle, so this is a really full-circle moment for him. He will continue to be the mentor bunny to the toons, including Buster Bunny (now voiced by recent Bugs Bunny for The Looney Tunes Cartoons, Eric Bauza). Bergman admitted he was surprised at how the love for the animated has endured over the years. “When we first did the show, you don’t know if anything is ever going to happen or if it’s ever going to go anywhere—is anybody going to like it? So at that time, it was Bugs Bunny’s 50th birthday, it was just the job. I know actors oftentimes say that, but it’s true. You just don’t know,” he said. “So here we are 33-34 years later, almost. And now they’re going to bring the show back again. And when I heard the theme song, [I thought], ‘Oh my God, that’s going to be amazing.’ The storylines are very different. Director [Erin Gibson] is wonderful, she’s awesome and she’s written for the show. So I think it’s for more this generation today, and there’s issues and things that will come up that kids will be able to relate to in this era. It’s a different show, but it was very smart the way they wrote it. I’m excited to see it.”
We had to bring up how Space Jam: A New Legacy has seen a resurgence in pop culture discourse due to its plot predictions coming true. The film centers around a villain—AI Al-G Rhythm (voiced by Don Cheadle)—threatening to delete iconic WB content like the Looney Tunes and investing in talent like LeBron James to come in and get their likeness scanned into any major Warner Bros. property (they were ahead of Black Mirror on that one). The basketball star resists, but he (and his son) get trapped in the WB serververse by the AI big bad in a fight for his child that well, prompts another Space Jam basketball game—with both the kid and Looney Tunes’ existences at stake. Image: WB Pictures With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes fighting eerily similar threats, we asked Bergman if that’s something he was conscious of while making the film or if it surprised him when it began to come true. “Yeah, I mean, there’s that thing with all the predictions that The Simpsons made, ‘Donald Trump is going to be president’,” he said as it dawned on him how spot on Space Jam 2 was. “That’s funny—I personally didn’t think about it, but I wonder if the director [Malcolm D. Lee] did. That is funny, but I didn’t think about it [and] it’s at our doorstep now. We’re all thinking, ‘Oh my God, are we all going to be replaced with everything?’ I do think about it, that maybe we could have all been a little bit more proactive and and thought about that in hindsight.”  Stay tuned here at io9 for more updates on Looney Legends in Conversation. Tiny Toons Looniversity arrives this fall on Cartoon Network and Max. This interview was conducted during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the projects being covered here wouldn’t exist. Want more io9 news?
