‘Absolutely devastating’ Colorado wildfire burns hundreds of homes near Boulder

Hundreds of homes burned and tens of thousands of people were evacuated after a rare wind-driven wildfire tore through suburban neighborhoods in Colorado on Thursday, authorities said.
Gov. Jared Polis declared a state of emergency in the area, calling the blaze — which ballooned to 1,600 acres in a few hours amid 100-mph winds — “absolutely devastating.”
After toppled power lines started the grass fire around 11 a.m. south of Boulder, the flames quickly spread through the towns of Louisville and Superior, Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle said during a news conference.
“This was consuming football field lengths of land in seconds,” Pelle said. “This was a horrific event.”
No deaths or missing persons had been reported, though he said he wouldn’t be “surprised if we find casualties.” One police officer was injured by flying debris, he said.
By 5 p.m., the fire had incinerated an entire subdivision of 370 homes in Superior and likely destroyed another 210 homes in the community’s old town neighborhood, he said. A hotel burned, a shopping center was in flames and the blaze was blocks from a hospital. Video broadcast by NBC affiliate KUSA of Denver showed huge flames roaring toward a Superior subdivision with dozens of homes. At least one was on fire. In a Louisville subdivision, video from the station showed several more homes consumed by flames.
A second blaze north of Boulder also ignited Thursday morning, though firefighters quickly extinguished it, the sheriff said. The conditions prompted the evacuations of tens of thousands of people from Louisville and Superior, Pelle said. They also caused road closures and hundreds of power outages, and the winds toppled multiple “high profile vehicles,” the Colorado State Patrol said in a tweet. Video from an evacuated Home Depot showed a parking lot that appeared to be engulfed by wind-whipped smoke. A similar scene was captured at a Costco in Superior. Smoke covers the skyline as a health wind-driven wildfire forced the evacuation of the Superior suburb of Boulder, Colo., on Thursday. Trevor Hughes / USA Today Network via Reuters Daniel Swain, a climate scientist and extreme weather expert at UCLA, said it was “genuinely hard to believe this is happening in late December in Boulder.” But a combination of events — a downslope windstorm with 100-mph blasts and a fall that saw record heat and just 1 inch of snow — prompted fires that Swain called “extremely fast moving” and “dangerous.” High wind warnings were canceled Thursday night, the National Weather Service said. Emergency management officials warned residents not to try and return to the area. The vast majority of Boulder County is experiencing extreme or severe drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, and experts have partly attributed the West’s increasingly intense wildfires to climate change.
The governor said the state recorded its three largest wildfires in recent history last summer, with each topping 200,000 acres. While some structures burned in those fires, he said, each ignited on wildlands far from suburban neighborhoods.
The section of Boulder County where Thursday’s fire broke out is filled with subdivisions and stores, he said.
“It’s like the neighborhood you live in,” he said. “It’s like the neighborhood that any of us live in. So 1,600 acres near a population center can be — and is, in this case — absolutely devastating.”

O’Neil, Miñoso, Hodges, Kaat, Oliva, Fowler get baseball HOF

Buck O’Neil never uttered a single word of bitterness or regret about not being elected to the baseball Hall of Fame. Till the end, he urged those who loved and rooted for him to do the same.
Now, long after a near miss that left many wondering if he’d ever make it, they can rejoice.
O’Neil, a champion of Black ballplayers during a monumental, eight-decade career on and off the field, joined Minnie Miñoso, Gil Hodges and three others in getting chosen for the Hall of Fame on Sunday.
Former Minnesota Twins teammates Tony Oliva and Jim Kaat also were elected along with Bud Fowler by a pair of veterans committees.
“Jubilation,” said Bob Kendrick, president of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri, that O’Neil helped create.
“While we’re all sad that Buck is not here, you just cannot not be happy for all of those who continued to beat that Buck O’Neil drum,” he said.
Oliva and Kaat, both 83 years old, are the only living new members. Longtime slugger Dick Allen, who died last December, fell one vote shy of election.
The six newcomers will be enshrined in Cooperstown, New York, on July 24, 2022, along with any new members elected by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. First-time candidates David Ortiz and Alex Rodriguez join Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Curt Schilling on the ballot, with voting results on Jan. 25.
Passed over in previous Hall elections, the new members reflect a diversity of accomplishments.
This was the first time O’Neil, Miñoso and Fowler had a chance to make the Hall under new rules honoring Negro League contributions. The Major League Baseball color barrier wasn’t broken until 1947 by Jackie Robinson.
Last December, the statistics of some 3,400 players were added to MLB’s record books when the sport said it was “correcting a longtime oversight in the game’s history” and reclassifying the Negro Leagues as a major league. O’Neil was a two-time All-Star first baseman in the Negro Leagues and the first Black coach in the National or American leagues. He became the ultimate ambassador for the sport until his death in 2006 at 94, was posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and already is honored with a life-sized statue inside the Hall of Fame.
For all O’Neil did for the game, many casual fans weren’t entirely familiar with him until they watched the nine-part Ken Burns documentary “Baseball,” which first aired on PBS in 1994.
There, O’Neil’s grace, wit and vivid storytelling brought back to life the times of Negro Leagues stars Satchel Paige, Josh Gibson and Cool Papa Bell, plus the days of many more Black players whose names were long forgotten.
Kendrick said it was too bad O’Neil won’t be in Cooperstown for the induction ceremonies, “but you know his spirit is going to fill the valley.”
O’Neil played 10 years in the Negro Leagues and helped the Kansas City Monarchs win championships as a player and manager. His numbers were hardly gaudy — a .258 career batting average, nine home runs.
But what John Jordan O’Neil Jr. meant to baseball can never be measured by numbers alone.
O’Neil was a coach with the Chicago Cubs and enjoyed a prolific career as a scout.
His impact is visible to this day.
Along with his statue in Cooperstown, the Hall’s board of directors periodically present the Buck O’Neil Lifetime Achievement Award to a person whose “whose extraordinary efforts enhanced baseball’s positive impact on society … and whose character, integrity and dignity” mirror those shown by O’Neil.
In 2006, it appeared O’Neil would get to soak in deserved praise for his achievements and advocacy when the Special Committee on Negro Leagues convened to study candidates for the Hall of Fame. The panel indeed elected 17 new members but O’Neil was not among them, narrowly missing out.
O’Neil was chosen to speak on behalf of those newcomers, all deceased, on induction day. True to his nature, he didn’t emit a single word of remorse or self-pity about his own fate of being left out.
Two months later, O’Neil died in Kansas City. Later that year, former President George W. Bush honored O’Neil’s legacy with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor.
“I’m near tears,” Burns tweeted. “Buck O’Neil is one of the greatest people I have met on this planet. I’m just so happy and pleased and know that somewhere Buck is already in an even bigger Hall of Fame.”
Miñoso was a two-time All-Star in the Negro Leagues before becoming the first Black player for the Chicago White Sox in 1951. Born in Havana, “The Cuban Comet” was a seven-time All-Star while with the White Sox and Indians.
“Trailblazer among Afro-Latinos and Cubans, five-tool dynamo on the baseball diamond, ‘Mr. White Sox’ … any description of his career now ends with the words ‘Hall of Famer,’” Chicago chairman Jerry Reinsdorf said in a statement.
There was nothing mini about Saturnino Orestes Armas Miñoso fitness on the field. He hit over .300 eight times with Cleveland and Chicago, led the AL in stolen bases three times, reached double digits in home runs most every season and won three Gold Gloves in left field.
Miñoso finished up, or so it seemed, in 1964. He came back at age 50 for the White Sox in 1976 — going 1 for 8 — and batted twice in 1980, giving him five decades of playing pro ball.
The White Sox retired his No. 9 in 1983 and he remained close to the organization and its players before his death in 2015.
Fowler, born in 1858, is often regarded as the first Black professional baseball player. The pitcher and second baseman helped create the popular Page Fence Giants barnstorming team.
Hodges became the latest Brooklyn Dodgers star from the pennant-winning “Boys of Summer” to reach the Hall, joining Robinson, Duke Snider, Roy Campanella and Pee Wee Reese.
An eight-time All-Star with 370 home runs and a three-time Gold Glover at first base, Hodges enhanced his legacy when he managed the 1969 “Miracle Mets” to the World Series championship, a startling five-game win over heavily favored Baltimore.
Hodges was still the Mets’ manager when he suffered a heart attack during spring training in 1972 and died at 47.
His daughter, Irene, said she was with her 95-year-old mother when the vote was announced.
“She just pounded her heart and said I‘m so happy for Gil. My dad was a great manager and a great player but above all else he was a great dad,” she said in a statement released by the Mets.
Oliva was a three-time AL batting champion with the Twins whose career was cut short by knee problems.
“I was looking for that phone call a long time,” Oliva said on MLB Network. “I had so many people work so hard for me to be elected. They said I should have been elected 40 years ago. To be alive to tell the people means a lot me.”
Kaat was 283-237 in 25 seasons and a 16-time Gold Glove winner.
“I never thought I was the No. 1 pitcher,” he said. “I wasn’t dominant. I was durable and dependable. I am grateful they chose to reward dependability.”
O’Neil and Fowler were selected by the Early Days committee. Hodges, Miñoso, Oliva and Kaat were chosen the by the Golden Days committee.
The 16-member panels met separately in Orlando, Florida. The election announcement was originally scheduled to coincide with the big league winter meetings, which were nixed because of the MLB lockout.
It took 12 votes (75%) for selection: Miñoso drew 14, O’Neil got 13 and Hodges, Oliva, Kaat and Fowler each had 12. Allen had 11.
Oliva was an eight-time All-Star and batted .304 in 15 seasons, all with the Twins. The Cuban-born outfielder known for hitting wicked line drives was the 1964 AL Rookie of the Year.
Kaat was a three-time All-Star, a three-time 20-game winner and pitched in four decades. He boosted the Twins into the 1965 World Series and won a ring as a reliever on the 1982 Cardinals.
Kaat became a longtime broadcaster after he finished playing. During this year’s playoffs, he apologized after saying on an MLB Network game telecast that teams should try to “get a 40-acre field full of” players who look like White Sox infielder Yoán Moncada, who is Cuban.
The remark prompted some viewers to recall the unfilled promise by the U.S. government that freed slaves would get 40 acres and a mule after the Civil War.

Toccara Jones Says Tyra Banks Can’t Be Canceled Over ‘ANTM’ Pay Disparity

TMZ.com Toccara Jones is defending Tyra Banks from being canceled over what some are seeing as exploitation on “America’s Next Top Model” … saying it’s unrealistic to pay contestants. The ex-“America’s Next Top Model” contestant tells TMZ … Tyra did nothing wrong by collecting a fat paycheck on the long-running modeling competition show while the girls only got a $40 per diem and no residuals. Toccara says that’s just the way things go in the modeling fitness industry … and she says it’s unheard of for people to be paid to be in a contest … because the whole point of a competition is to win and get the prize money. The ‘ANTM’ exposure certainly worked out for Toccara, even though she had her own struggles on season 3 … in part because she was a plus-sized model. Tyra and ‘ANTM’ are getting dragged back under the microscope after a fan of the show went viral this week by bringing up the fact Tyra pulled in a huge paycheck as a judge while the models got scraps. ‘ANTM’ alum Sarah Hartshorne tweeted the fan’s complaint, saying models didn’t get residuals and had to pay for their own food during the show. Toccara says the $40 was a per diem … and she’s got no issues about the lack of residuals for her air time … telling us how the show gives models a stepping stone to eventually land a gig with good pay.

Six artists are participating in the 11-week pilot residency, a project of the Royal Commission for AlUla that started in November and continues into January.
The six inaugural residents are Saudi conceptual artist and educator, Rashed AlShashai; Sara Favriau, a Paris-based multidisciplinary artist working in sculpture, installation, and performance; Talin Hazbar a Syria-born, Sharjah-based architect and a visual artist whose work processes the intersections of nature, history, and ecology; the French multimedia artist Laura Selliesis; Dubai-based Sofiane Si Merabet, whose work interrogates memories, identities, and migration; and Muhannad Shono, a Riyadh-based multidisciplinary artist. The first edition of the residency will be based in Mabiti AlUla, and later established in the arts and design center Madrasat AdDeera. Throughout the residency, the artists will work around the theme “rebirth of the oasis.” Related Articles Jean-François Charnier, AlUla’s scientific director, and Arnaud Morand, head of creation and innovation, called the residency program “an unprecedented experiment to associate at this level artistic vision and scientific approaches in the writing of the narratives and the reimagination of a destination. This will undoubtedly contribute to further mark the originality of AlUla as a cultural destination of a new kind.”
AlUla, once inaccessible to tourists and avoided by locals out of deference to superstition, has been reincarnated as part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s ambitious rebranding of Saudi Arabia as “the world’s largest living museum.”
The residency is a small piece of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s expansive plan to boost Saudi Arabia’s cultural credentials and promote a more “open” image of the country. AlUla, once inaccessible to tourists and avoided by locals out of deference to superstition, has been reincarnated as “the world’s largest living museum.”
It is home the kingdom’s star heritage attractions, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Site comprising Hegra, Dadan, AlUla Old Town, and Jabal ‘Ikmah. (The government hopes it can draw more than a million tourists by 2035.) The contemporary art exhibition Desert X AlUla, a partnership between the California-based art biennial Desert X and the Saudi government, held its inaugural exhibition in 2020. Site-specific works by an international roster of artists were installed throughout the valley and sandstone mountains.
But the initiative was met with criticism and inspired the resignation of three members of Desert X’s board of directors, including the artist Ed Ruscha and art historian Yael Lipschutz who said the exhibition was “about striking a deal with a national government … that is fashion completely undemocratic.” Despite the condemnation, organizers maintained that the partnership was about bridging gaps between cultures.

Toccara says that’s just the way things go in the modeling industry … and she says it’s unheard of for people to be paid to be in a contest … news because the whole point of a competition is to win and get the prize money.

Interview About the Future of Travel Connections: Stanislav Stepanov

Let’s assume the pandemic is over, which will hopefully soon be the case. There are good indicators for it. The steady increase of our website traffic is one of them.
There has been a lot of exciting news over the past few months when we take a look at the tech industry. Developments which will also effect the travel and media industry. As avid travelers, we’re excited to see what’s to come from tech in travel.
One example is the improvement of search results. A third of online users globally use voice search to find results. And Google’s evolved AI (artificial intelligence) then tries to provide direct information to answer these searches. Their aim is to provide this information spoken – and in the future maybe even start a discussion with the user.
Imagine you explore a city and you start the following conversation with your phone: You: “Hey Google, list the best restaurants in the area.” AI: “Sure, is there a specific cuisine you would prefer today?” You: “I would love to try something local. But I would also be fine with a good pizza. It’s more important that it’s authentic.” AI: “There is a very popular street vendor two metro stops away, which is well known for their local and authentic dishes. Here is a video and article about it. If you prefer something closer, there is an Italian restaurant just around the corner, which has 4.5* ratings for their pizzas.” You: “Give me the directions to the street vendor, but also make a reservation at the restaurant for 8pm tonight.” So far, this is still my fantasy…Google needs a lot of input and support from the community and website operators to be able to create this kind of service.
But, I’m interested to hear more about what we could expect from this new era. What kind of new tools (tech and deep tech) will be there? Let’s discuss what we have to lookout for and what trends are worth joining, and which ones are not?
What can we expect from tech in travel?
Let me introduce you to another avid traveler Stanislav Stepanov, founder of BilliOnAir. His start-up is presented in Canada and Europe with its head-office in Grenoble-France in one of the well-known European innovative hubs – INOVALLEE.  This diverse, competent and enthusiastic team works on developing the first “real-time immersive indoor & outdoor interactive 360° video streaming platform to engage remote travelers and local tour guides”.
Stanislav is a serial entrepreneur with over 20 years of experience in international business development. Including building and running early-stage startups in green R&D for oil & gas, aerospace industries and leading a non-profit ecological organization. He is an expert in implementing and scaling innovative technologies and building relationships with decision makers. You can connect with him on LinkedIn and Twitter. TD: How accurate is my fantasy? Will we see a similar search conversation like in the example above in the near future? Stanislav: This example is almost a reality. Services that actually help travelers on their actual journeys are progressing rapidly. Your example is an example of how AI and ML work. These technologies have the widest application today, and the question of a full-fledged dialogue between man and machine (or software) is not a question of tomorrow, but of today. So your fantasy is quite realistic. The main thing is that it should benefit the traveler, who asks questions to the machine (software). And by the way, when people are asking such an AI assistant, they will not necessarily say “Hello, Google”, it may well be for example “Hello, Naver”. TD: If Google gives out spoken results, how can a website operator, for example a hotel director, tour operator or travel blogger benefit from this? Stanislav: As can be seen from the same example of a Human- AI dialogue. Which, by the way, is quite a good one that you cited, it is usually of a brief informational nature. Even the quite humane attempt of the AI to give its answers a little more emotional flavor, does not give the user (human) a full-fledged replacement for what he can see with his own eyes, learn for himself (by visiting the same restaurant or hotel). That is, when it comes to the benefits of a specific business associated with travel and tourism (hotel, restaurant, gift store, etc.), then AI is only one of the tools in the hands of marketers in this business – for information and brand awareness in the eyes of the user. A handy tool, but one of a number of tools available to marketers now. TD: One competitor of Google is Facebook, who call themselves Meta now. What’s behind the idea of Metaverse? Stanislav: Behind this idea is exactly the good work of marketers. I’m not evaluating the rebranding or the founder’s latest speech, which has traditionally been the subject of memes on the Web. I’m talking about the level of quotability, and the market reaction that followed. From a marketing point of view – Absolute Bravo! To the team that implemented it.
However, if I start answering the specific “What’s behind it” question, we’re going to have to set aside a couple of days for that. And that’s just for the first conversation. The fundamental idea of the whole picture of the interaction between the virtual world and the real world, was theorized by Avi Bar-Zeev, one of the legends and pioneers of VR, for whom the topic of the interaction of different realities is the topic of his many years of work.
In fact, based on this view, there are many different hypostases of the universe, and it’s not just Meta.
Read: Beyond Meta: The Seven Verses And/or watch: TD: They call it the “next evolution of social connection”. Do you agree with this? Why or why not? Stanislav: I almost agree. Unless it becomes the next evolution of separation. Or “disconnection looking like connection”. Are you sure that’s not going to happen? I’m not.
I haven’t seen pickets or queues of Facebook-Meta users with “We need a next evolution of social connection” banners. I haven’t seen people suffering from any lack of social connectivity. I haven’t seen a single research on the subject of humanity’s real request for the evolution of social connection. This is where we have to ask, “What’s behind this?”.
Obviously, we are witnessing a traditional game with the human mind, subconscious and attention. Such games are always very fascinating. And they are often effective, especially when it comes to creating new markets or redefining old ones. The only question is for whom is this game of real value – for Zuckerberg, or for the people living on planet Earth?
I’m just not sure that humanity has decided to abandon human appearance in favor of avatars (artificial faces and bodies) to solve the so-called “lack of social connection” problem. And if it (humanity) did so, it would be nice to know where, when and how such a decision was made.
It also remains unclear how Facebook-Meta’s new strategy fits in with the UN Sustainable Development Goals such as Goal #10: Reduce inequality within and among countries Social connection implies people interacting on some basis-whether they agree for free or for a fee-but for the sake of some goal or system of goals.  TD: We’ve seen the online game “Second Life” which started in 2003. It sounds quite similar. What’s different and what could make the difference to succeed now in the mainstream market? Stanislav: Second Life is a pioneer community, which essentially started the creation of what is now called the Metaverse (Dejaverse by Avi Bar-Zeev). The strength of the community lies in its members and creators, and in the rules that they agree on and follow. It is the kind of self-organizing environment that sociologists might call a democracy.
Here I can only quote Natalie Clayton, “We’re going to keep hearing about metaverse for months to come, but don’t be fooled. The metaverse has been here for years, and it’s already bigger, bolder and more wonderfully bizarre than anything Facebook could hope to offer.” The entire article is here: Virtual worlds are already better than the metaverse will ever be TD: How can the travel industry benefit from a service like Metaverse? Please give several examples of tech in travel. Stanislav:  There are a couple of benefits available for tech in the travel industry now. Starting with the nascent culture of 360 video, when travel enthusiasts try to record 360 videos of their trips, and it becomes popular. Periodically, people can find such videos randomly on traditional video streaming platforms, and get their perspective on different travel destinations from a new angle. In general, this type of content for popularizing travel destinations is quite effective if done well.
Another possible benefit is related to marketing again. Organizing online shopping in a metaworld is quite possible, and will be one of the catalysts for sales of travel-related products.
The recent decisions of Barbados (Barbados to Become First Sovereign Nation With an Embassy in the Metaverse) and Seoul (Seoul to Launch ‘Metaverse’ Public Service Platform in 2022) also speak to the applicability and potential of VR, 360 and AR for the travel industry as a whole as they become a catalyst for audience interest and a tool to retain that interest, and that is ultimately very important for creating a favorable business environment and a new culture of business interaction. If a virtual universe consists of virtual countries, territories and services helpful for real people in the real world – then why not? It’s a win-win situation. TD: What other exciting new travel technologies do you see rising in the near future? Stanislav: We believe that a large part of video content will exist in the form of 360 video. Its share will grow, and it will grow quite rapidly. There are many factors contributing to this. One of the traditional problems of the so-called 360 VR industry has always been the quality of the content. Many videos were simply uncomfortable to watch before. Now that problem is being solved by major advances in Hard and Software. Hard is getting cheaper, Soft is getting better without exaggeration on a daily basis. Today, a good 360 video camera costs as much as an iPhone, and a good VR headset as much as half an iPhone. And prices are going to go down. This is always the case when a new device enters the mass market. So the question about the number of users of VR (360 video) is a question of time and only time. Everyone understands the difference between 360 video and watching a regular video on a flat device with frames. In 360 video, a person is immersed in the content and exists in it. This is why it is called an immersive experience. We believe that through the development of such travel technologies (a combination of breakthrough solutions in Hard and Soft), it is possible to create very necessary and useful services for a huge number of people all over the Planet. Virtual Reality – The Future of Travel Connections? Image by DepositPhotos TD: You decided to try your luck in that market. Why exactly this niche? We’ve seen 360° videos for several years already, but they never played a bigger role. Not on YouTube and not on other websites really. What can be the gamechanger? Stanislav: We focus on solving two problems: the traveler – experienced or inexperienced, and the local tour guide (or someone who decided to become one).
The way we travel is broken. And has been for a long time now. Travelers are struggling to find a travel emotions substitute by watching traditional travel content on existing platforms. In fact, it is hard. Because no video can replace travel for at least one billion people who have enjoyed travel at least once in their lives.
What if a traveler can find a way to enjoy traveling even without leaving home?
We believe there is a revolutionary immersive model to teleport and entertain people and bring them travel emotions.
And that’s why we created BilliOnAir, the first real-time immersive indoor & outdoor interactive 360 video streaming platform for remote travelers and local tour guides.
It’s built for experienced and unsophisticated travelers, for professional storytellers, video creators and for the beginners.
BilliOnAir teleports and entertains travelers, and helps local guides make money. Here is how it works: the local guides make live streams (more simple wording: they shoot and immediately transmit the video) from their locations using a 360 camera, and remote travelers from any other locations (at the same time) can watch and interact with the guide and each other if they watch the stream together… For this, a VR headset is not required, but it’s recommended to get a fully immersive experience. Travelers can also engage with guides using a smartphone, PC or a tablet. They book in advance or join instantly any available 360 live stream and start watching and interacting with their guide the same way if they really travel. All in one click.
For local guides – virtual tours creators – our platform becomes a monetization tool. The guides make money from every stream and every traveler.
No jet-lag, no queue, no time-zone. Just travel. TD:  If we take a look at YouTube videos, a lot of them are in a low quality. Not from the resolution, but in the way they were produced. You see a ton of shaky videos, horrible camera maneuvers and badly edited cuts and formats. To produce a 360° video in a good quality is a completely different game. You want to work with professional tour guides who are amateurs in video productions. How shall they be able to produce great videos and then maybe even ‘live’? Stanislav: BILLIONAIR Broadcasting Kit (BBK) – is the first tuition course made by our team and lead by our Head of Production – Andrii Shramko – one of the most experienced and recognized 360-video content creators and producers.
BBK contains a series of lessons and practical recommendations earned by the most experienced creators of 360-degree video. This course helps anyone to be able to start making 360 videos and live streams easily.
Combined with all features of BILLIONIAR platform it provides all benefits from the very beginning.
In other words, we support our amateur 360-video creators from day one and help them become more professional. So for them to able to deliver a great quality of pre-recorded or live video content without shakes, horrible fitness camera maneuvers and badly edited cuts. TD: What about VR & AR? Why should a tourist buy and use a VR device and what value will it provide? Stanislav: My grandmother lived in a small village in Siberia. For many years they did not have a refrigerator, because it had not yet been invented then, and when it was invented, it was expensive. Every time food was stored outside the house in the -30 to -40 degree cold winter. It was great and functional, but also only a seasonal solution for preserving meat, fish, etc. In summer, such products were stored in the cellar. It was also a solution, but less reliable.
Then came the era of refrigerators, they have become available, including for my grandmother. It is clear that by the time she was an elderly person, she was happy to have a refrigerator in the kitchen – an out-of-season solution available 24 hours a day at a distance of one step. So she has not to run out every time for products in the cold winter, or climb the steep stairs into the cellar in summer to get them.
Tourists may or may not buy VR headsets. But once they try to use them for travel fun, decision making, shopping, etc., they’ll appreciate the benefits of such an all-season available at arm’s length 24/7 solution. TD: How can travel brands, but also the digital media publishers, benefit from this step? Stanislav: First of all, it is an opportunity for brands to showcase their products in the form of new content. This attracts the attention of the audience.
In the form of content in which you can immerse yourself (for example, drive down a ski slope in Rossignol skis with a friend wearing a new Moncler suit) – this will attract even more attention due to the effect of presence.
The main idea when such content is watched with a VR headset is that there is nothing else to distract the user. Thus, brands capture the user’s full attention and can do with this attention whatever they want in theory.
Digital media are becoming global guides and platforms for the engagement of billions of people around the world. TD: Why are 360° videos a serious alternative? Will this include VR & AR? Stanislav: 360 video and the engagement of people watching together, for example 360 video broadcasts from tourist locations, is really a serious alternative to what is now called the meta universe. It’s essentially the same reality that is now becoming available to everyone. This is the same as the refrigerator for my grandmother in Siberia.
VR and AR technology are becoming the tools to accomplish such an idea. If you imagine a 360-live stream from the center of Rome, when your guide with a camera walks along the route from the Colosseum to the Spanish Steps and tells you about the sights and history, you can see as a feature the pop-up, superimposed AR tags and navigation hyperlinks, which just might contain useful related information or unobtrusive advertising.
Now let’s think about the main thing – why such an alternative is important. What is travel in essence? It’s when a person gets out of his usual location (city, country) and physically visits another location – usually far from his home. In today’s world, this is often done by air travel, for it is more efficient to cover a distance of say 1000 km or more.
A few years ago Boeing conducted a study and obtained this data. Of the entire population of the Earth, only 1 billion people have had the experience of flying by air at least once in their lives. That means that the remaining approximately 7 billion people have never flown in an airplane. That means they have not seen unfamiliar locations in their masses. It means they haven’t and still don’t have enough travel experience.
Why don’t we help them? Why don’t we give them a convenient, accessible tool so they can experience the emotions of a traveler without even leaving home? At least this way we will bring them closer to something new and unexplored, we will consider our mission accomplished, and then they – users will make their own decisions – can fly to Rome or visit it with a familiar or new guide again in a day, week, month with a 360-live stream for 4 euros instead of 400 euros just for the ticket.
Also, if we’re talking about equality, let’s talk about older people who are young at heart but cannot travel fully due to health limitations. They deserve our attention, and the opportunity to travel from the comfort of their own homes, too – and they will be happy to have that opportunity. That’s exactly where there is no prejudice about VR. For them, VR is a real way out and a real alternative and help. The same can be said about wheelchair users, of whom there are about 100 million in the world. So the new tool is already becoming a huge benefit for billions of people. And at the same time it helps the tourism industry itself, and local tour guides, which now have the opportunity to create, conduct tours, monetize their skills on this marketplace for an unlimited global audience. TD: Which destination would you like to explore through a 360° video? With a VR device? Why this spot? Stanislav: We are focused on, but not limited to, popular destinations.
I would say that for us it is not so much the name of the geographical point on the map that is important, but the value that this point represents for travel. We focus equally on all kinds of tourist destinations and activities. These are mountains, skiing, sea, beach, museums, castles, city tours, gastro-tours, street performances, sports events, educational tours, nature parks, theme parks. In general, all kinds of activities that travelers can experience and afford while traveling. That’s why we are constantly inviting new guides and video content creators, people who know their territories well and are ready to tell other people about them.
The VR device in this case is a good key to the door that says Teleportainment. But it’s not the only one. Our users will be able to use their tablets, smartphones or computers to try the experience. Again, in our inherently democratic model – then let them decide for themselves whether or not to use VR headsets. Personally, I use it because I enjoyed it. TD: OK, so which destination will you choose and use your VR to watch a 360° video?  Stanislav: I have a list of hundreds of destinations I want to visit virtually and physically.
But for sure I would like to see and visit: Bali, Dolomiti, Archipelago Los Roques, Mont-Saint-Michel, Lisboa. My previous dream was about the Alps. But now I live here in Grenoble (France), and my traveler’s dream is around me. Melvin

Description: It’s time to put yourself back in the driver’s seat of your life.
Poor mental health is a serious subject, and it should never be taken lightly.
Over the next few minutes, I’m going to share with you how you can attack one of the major contributors of anxiety.
Your stress, worry, and fears should never dictate how you should live your life ever again…
And you can conquer these feelings, WITHOUT taking any medication to “temporarily” ease your mind.
First, you need to understand that the key to feeling calm and collected and not “lost in your head” is to master what some doctors call “your second brain.”
I know it sounds crazy, but let me explain.
Listen: there is no one simple cure for anxiety.
Since there are a lot of different variables that lead to it, it takes more than one change to get rid of anxiety for good.
You see, most people don’t “get” how your diet plays a MAJOR role with how the rest of your body, and more importantly, your mind functions.
Enter The Anti-Anxiety Recipe Plan.
If you’re someone who suffers from anxiety, this recipe book will help you take an entirely natural approach to improve your mind and well-being.
You’ve heard this saying before—
“You are what you eat.”
And according to research from John Hopkins Medical School, whenever you’re nervous or anxious, you’re likely getting signals from an unexpected source—your gut.
AKA your “second brain.”
It’s the reason why you’ll feel your stomach “act up” right before an important event, like a job interview or even a hot date.
Studies like this are revolutionizing the way people look at digestion, mood, your health, and yes, the way you think.
That’s why the launch for this book is taking the health and wellness community by storm…
Instead of eating recipes full of refined and unnatural foods, The Anti Anxiety Recipe Plan uses ingredients like antioxidants, healthy fats, and healing herbs.
And they’re not just good for you. Inside, you’ll find 50+ anxiety-relieving recipes so mouth-watering, they’ll blow your favorite stuffed crust pizza out of the water.
Dishes like Korean Style Steak and Kimchi Wraps…Sweet Potato Frittatas…Turmeric Tahini Buddha Bowls…Crispy Baked Chicken Cutlets…and Lemon Poppylicious Energy Balls
(And they blast anxiety away with each bite)
These “Holistic Mind Soothing Ingredients” are time-tested, proven, all-natural ingredients that BANISH anxiety and SOOTHE your mind.
Not only that, but you can use them to regain your health, energy, and vitality.
Each recipe leverages the power of the Paleo Diet.
It’s recently been featured on popular shows like Rachael Ray and Dr. Oz, and it’s backed by leading Doctors and Nutritionists. It’s even used by celebrities like Megan Fox, Jessica Biel, and Anne Hathaway!
The Paleo diet works by eating whole foods that have kept humans healthy for centuries.
The core principles are simple:
Basically, if your “stone age ancestors” didn’t eat it, neither should you.
Every meal in this diet usually has 2/3 vegetables and 1/3 of lean protein, fruits, and healthy fat.
However, it’s not all fun and games…
Because before today, going Paleo meant giving up ALL gluten, dairy, processed sugar, and artificial ingredients.
The Anti-Anxiety Recipe Plan is changing all of that…
And lets us indulge in appetizing, paleo-friendly versions of everything we’re told to “give up” on the paleo diet.
Avo Choco Mousse…Maple Macaroons…Cherry Chocolate Chip Smoothies…Cinnamon Apples…
Wait until you see the gorgeous photos below.
But before we get there, allow me to introduce myself:
Hi, my name is Danny Jeffers.

And I want to share them with you too.

WITHOUT using medication.
WITHOUT giving up your favorite guilty pleasures.
And WITHOUT eating the same, bland foods every day.
What’s more: these recipes will work for you even if you’ve tried other diets…
You see, you don’t have to be a whiz in the kitchen, and you don’t need to give up hours of your time to figure out each recipe.
The holistic, mind-soothing ingredients in The Anti-Anxiety Recipe Plan are here to calm you down, not cause any more stress.
It’s difficult to share but I think it’s important so here we go…
I didn’t know I was going to end up in the ER that day.
It was a regular Thursday morning. And as I got out of bed, I whipped up what I thought at the time, was a “healthy” breakfast.
If you saw me in public you would think nothing was wrong with me.
I exercised every day, had a good job, a girlfriend, and had a ton of friends.
Yet despite looking like everything was “right” in my life, I was exhausted and beat myself up daily with self-criticism.
I hated my life for no good reason at all…
My mind was foggy. My head was constantly dizzy.
At the same time, I felt like I had to always be “on edge.”
I overthought EVERYTHING.
Sometimes it felt like I would just “forget” how to talk to people too.
“Am I saying the right thing?”
“How do I know everything is going to be okay?”
These “symptoms” only scratch the surface.
Because the second noon hit that day, it was like someone hijacked my mind.
I was in the middle of a small meeting for my work, right in the heart of downtown Santa Monica, California.
Something in my head screamed at me to leave NOW.
I swear, it was like my mind was warning me that I was being chased down by a tiger.
My breathing grew heavy, so I stood up and rushed outside of the building to get some fresh air.
But still, I could sense my anxiety clawing right through my skin…
It really was a beautiful day in Santa Monica, the sun was shining, the palm trees swaying…
But underneath it all, I felt broken.
I thought to myself, “did somebody drug me?”
After pacing around the streets like a madman, I used my shaky hands to call up an Uber so I could retreat to my home.
I just knew I couldn’t stay here.
Then, after waiting for what felt like HOURS I finally got into my Uber and continued to sweat bullets.
Inside the car, I desperately scrambled to tell my driver that I NEEDED to go to the ER NOW.
And as you can probably guess, they couldn’t tell me a straight answer for what was wrong with me.
A kind nurse told me it might’ve been just vertigo and it would eventually “go away.”
The rest of the staff said to “sleep it off…”
That was the best answer I could get?
I must’ve been going insane. I wanted to give up.
Was this just a one-time thing?
But for the next few months, my anxiety would rear its ugly head again…
My negative self-talk would creep in at random parts of the day.
And my brain would fire off alarm bells during normal moments…
Like right before an important presentation I had to give at work…
While talking to a coworker…
Sitting in a crowded room with strangers…or friends…
And even while getting a haircut…!
This intense anxiety dripped into other parts of my life too…
Eventually, I couldn’t focus at work anymore.
And my relationship with my beautiful girlfriend strained.
I felt suffocated from it all.
I never told anyone I suffered from anxiety.
That’s because I didn’t want to deal with the “stigma” or feel embarrassed over it.
Still, I couldn’t stand feeling this way anymore.
I started experimenting with antidepressants.
Whenever doctors would prescribe me medicine or a new over the counter pill, I would ask them if I could have three more…
I just wanted to do whatever it took to finally BANISH my anxiety for good.
You name it, I’ve tried it.
Yet nothing really worked.
Sometimes they would only make me feel a little better…
But I still felt some symptoms.
The rush of uncertainty….
Me questioning every tiny thing…
And that’s IF I didn’t feel like a zombie.
I couldn’t go on like this.
So I started looking for a holistic approach.
It’s already hard enough to meditate WITHOUT anxiety, how in the world would I be able to “clear my mind” with it?
I thought I could find something else.
The more I dove into this problem, the more I learned.
And then I discovered that…
Some doctors call your gut “the second brain.”
Sounds strange but it’s true.
Your gut and mind are connected.
Together, they help determine your overall health, so when your gut health is out of balance, your body and mind will know it too!
Like I said, I discovered this after reviewing studies from John Hopkins Medical School, Harvard, The National Center for Biotechnology, and Psychology Today.
For example, you probably already knew that most fried foods like french fries, chicken, and onion rings are terrible for your health.
They’re cooked in hydrogenated oil so they’re harder to digest.
These foods will sap your energy levels, even HOURS after you eat them!
Yet it may surprise you to know that some “everyday” foods you might think are “healthy” for you, throw your entire nervous system out of whack too.
Sometimes, their negative effect is so powerful, you can overstimulate your nervous system to the point that it feels like you’re reliving a stressful life event or bad memory.
And I’m not just talking about coffee, or anything with caffeine either.
Too much dairy and something as simple as your favorite fruit juice can also give you fatigue and make it difficult to concentrate.
I took a good, hard look at my diet and what I’ve been feeding “my second brain” for years…
Here I was lost in my daily dose of mental hell, and the reason was right in front of me this entire time…
So now you know that your gut has a deeper connection to the rest of your body, and especially your anxiety…
You can’t “numb” your senses with medication, because they only help “manage” your anxiety for the short term.
And you can’t just “skip” certain meals, because the drop in your body’s sugar levels can lead to a spike in anxiety too!
When one of my friends introduced me to an all-natural, real food, paleo diet… my state of mind finally began to return to normal.
Almost instantly, my brain fog, dizziness, and near fight-or-flight symptoms vanished.
My anxiety wasn’t gnawing at my conscious 24/7.
And for the first time in what must’ve been YEARS, I was overflowing with real, natural joy.
But like I said before, the only drawback?
Paleo makes you cut grains, high-fat meats, sugar, salty foods…
Basically this means I couldn’t keep eating anything tasty.
My pizza, doughnuts, and everything in between.
As a result, my cravings went bonkers!
I wanted to chow down on cheesecake after dinner…
I wanted to devour a frozen pizza with my friends and watch Game of Thrones with a cold one in my hand…
And there’s nothing else out there that hits the spot like my mom’s infamous spaghetti and meatballs.
But now I couldn’t indulge in any of those guilty pleasures…
So I searched far and wide, looking for a chef who understood the deep relationship food has with your mind…
Not only that, but I was also looking for someone who knew how to whip-up delicious, mouth-watering meals in a snap.
And that’s when I met…
Melissa is a certified nutritional chef and graduate from The Academy of Culinary Nutrition.
She has a knack for re-creating “unhealthy dishes” and turning them into a healthy meal packed with flavor.
You’ve probably seen some of her recipes cooked on Dr. Oz, and featured on The Kitchen Blog for Fisher, Paykel Appliances, and Readers Digest.
Not only is she extremely passionate about cooking, but she loves sharing her knowledge of all things health.
I got the chance to meet her in New York City after going to one of her health and wellness workshops.
At the event, she talked about her personalized nutrition programs, and she gave a demonstration of one of her original recipes.
But what really struck a chord with me was when she talked about the “gut-brain connection” I already did a ton of research on.
When the event ended, I went up to her and shared with her what I’ve learned about this subject too.
She was open with me and fashion she shared her struggles with chronic stress, food sensitivities, fatigue, and anxiety.
At first she thought there was nothing seriously wrong with her…maybe you’re like her.
You see, she worked long hours and was a “road warrior” that was constantly on the go.
Whenever she would visit a traditional doctor to tackle this problem, they would just try to give her pills…
But there was no way she would go through that downward spiral.
Instead, she took another close look at her recipes.
She figured out how she could adjust them so that they would not only help her with food allergies, but also with her stress and anxiety too!
And of course, as a top chef, she knew she had made sure they were delicious.
The Anti-Anxiety Recipe Plan, her new recipe book filled with 50+ mouth-watering anxiety relieving recipes that lets you indulge while keeping your mind clear and your heart happy.
While I was with her in person, she shared with me a couple of the dishes she put together in her book.
I sampled them, and had to double check with her to ask her again what the ingredients were…
Listen: no one wants to force bland, lifeless food down their throat.
That’s why Inside The Anti-Anxiety Recipe Plan, you can be rest assured, every recipe is bursting with flavor.
Each bite of the chocolate chip muffins or cranberry orange bread is warm and scrumptious.
The mouth-watering sweet potato frittata is savory.
And the chicken cutlets and broiled salmon are rich and filling.
The cherry on top is that if you’re looking to shed an extra few pounds and feel more energized than ever, they can be made PALEO…
What’s cool is most of these can be made within minutes… and without any expensive equipment.
Meaning using exactly what you have laying around your kitchen right now, you can dig in immediately after work… guilt free!
You can forget having to go to different grocery stores every week…
Each ingredient can be found at your local grocery chain. So these recipes aren’t just delicious and good for you, they’re convenient too!
Goodbye grueling grocery store visits… hello easy mood and easy food.
Remember: each recipe is natural and nourishes your “second brain.” This means you won’t have to deal with any weird chemicals.
For each page, there’s a nutritional breakdown and explanation for how each ingredient soothes your mind and body.
So the bottom line is this: there’s something for everyone!
And just to reiterate one more time…
Look: nobody likes complicated recipes, especially if you’re someone suffering from anxiety and high-stress levels.
That’s why each recipe in The Anti-Anxiety Recipe Plan is made simple!
Most can be prepared in 15-30 minutes…
Don’t worry, you don’t have to be Gordon Ramsay to whip these up.
Even if you struggle to prepare the most basic recipes, you’ll still be able to make these tasty, mind-soothing meals, snacks, and desserts in The Anti-Anxiety Recipe Plan with no problem.
You might also be concerned about the ingredients…
And specifically, where you can get them…
If this is your first cookbook, then sure, some of the ingredients will be new.
But most — if not all — are laying around your kitchen already.
Things like cinnamon, baking soda, lemon juice…
And any ingredients you need to get can be found in your closest “normal” grocery store or found online (from the comfort of your own home) on Amazon.
Plus each recipe includes a breakdown of how fast it takes to make each meal. You’ll also have an inside look behind HOW each ingredient nourishes both your mind and body.

Pharrell Williams, Haim Visit Chanel Labyrinth at Art Basel Miami – Billboard

Artist Es Devlin wanted guests to engage in all their senses when she designed “Five Echoes,” the public installation commissioned by Chanel to honor the 100th anniversary of the house’s iconic No. 5 fragrance. More than 2,000 fragrant trees, grasses and other plants were sourced to create a forest-like environment at Jungle Plaza in Miami’s Design District, with a walkable labyrinth 100 feet in diameter — its shape inspired by a French abbey from Coco Chanel’s childhood — rising from its center.

While Devlin sought myriad ways to honor the codes of Chanel in the experience, sustainability was also top of mind, said the British-born artist and stage designer. “We began with a conversation about how a temporary artwork can be made without polluting the planet,” she told The Hollywood Reporter. “Sadly, many of them end up in landfills. Once I saw this huge, beautiful space, my immediate thought was to turn it into a temporary forest, and then when all is said and done, replant that forest here in Miami.”

All trees and plants will be donated to public parks in Miami-Dade County, while Devlin adopted the same approach with the labyrinth. Crafted with stretched fabric and timber, the installation’s materials will be donated to local theater companies once the public event concludes Dec. 21. (More information about visiting the space can be found here.)

To celebrate the installation’s opening, Chanel hosted a splashy dinner in Jungle Plaza on Friday evening, Dec. 3, with guests who included Pharrell and Helen Williams, Joe Jonas, Venus Williams, Rebecca Dayan, Dylan Penn, Maluma and the Haim sisters.

For the L.A.-based rock trio, the night’s event was a first for them with both Chanel and Art Basel Miami Beach, and they were quick to agree that they’re big fans of Devlin’s work. “We’ve followed her for a long time,” Danielle Haim said. “The pieces she’s done for rock shows, for U2 or Adele, are incredible. We’ve always been in awe and so inspired by her.”

Like other guests, the three sisters wore head-to-toe Chanel. They also appear in one of the year’s hottest films, Paul Thomas Anderson’s Licorice Pizza. Did they have any idea that the movie ultimately would generate so much buzz during production? “It’s not surprising because I was news so in love with the script the first time I read it,” Alana Haim told THR. “Doing something you’re passionate about, and you really believe in was important to all of us, and we really believe in Paul. It was such an amazing experience; I wish I could go back and do it again 40 million times.”

Maluma, who’s starring in Marry Me with Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson (expected to release Feb. 11, 2022), likewise embraced the spirit of the evening, pairing a pink-and-white knit cardigan from Chanel’s Spring 2021 collection with white sequined trousers and a group of pearl necklaces. “With my [styling] team, we always think ahead and want to change the game,” he said of his look. “I’m not afraid of trying different things; I love pink, and I love pearls, that’s why I’m wearing this. I like to create trends, not follow them.”

Guests toured the labyrinth and surrounding forest before a seated dinner that included citrus-poached lobster and candy squash risotto, while desserts of basil sorbet and chocolate-chai mousse were being served, Devlin appeared at the center of the labyrinth to introduce the night’s surprise musical guest: Rosalia.

The Barcelona-born singer and songwriter, who won a Grammy in 2020 for best Latin rock, urban or alternative album, shared her own Chanel memories in the middle of a four-song set. “My grandmother, Lucretia, she was obsessed with this perfume,” she told the crowd. “She used to wear it all the time, and let’s be honest, it wasn’t a little. Every time she came to visit us, we all knew Lucretia was there before we saw her because [the scent of Chanel] was all over the house.”

This final night of Art Basel Miami Beach ultimately capped a week of events hosted by the legendary French label, starting with a drone show Wednesday evening, Dec. 1, at Faena Beach. Also designed to celebrate the Chanel No. 5 anniversary, the light show at that event included more than 500 drones creating a rendering of the No. 5 bottle that stretched more than 600 feet in the night sky.

On Thursday, Dec. 2, the brand opened its first boutique in the Miami Design District, with architect and interior designer Peter Marino present to sign copies of his just-released book, The Architecture of Chanel (Phaidon Press, $125), which chronicles his many collaborations with the house. “We’ve done more than 400 boutiques together, but they’ve also given me 12 architectural commissions, and that to me is meaningful,” Marino explained to THR. “Twelve buildings for a brand with the same architect just doesn’t happen, and I wanted to record it.”

How did he approach the look of the Design District boutique? “Chanel waited to be the last brand in the neighborhood, so I created a white cube, the same height and width on all sides, and put all the drama on the inside,” he said. “The design is the cleanest and the simplest of everything we see here, and it’s the one people will relate to the most.” (Among Marino’s upcoming projects is the redesign of Chanel’s Rodeo Drive boutique, expected for completion in 2022.)

From a white cube to a verdant forest, the messages communicated by the brand via art and design throughout the week were wholly intentional. “Every generation that comes along, we have a responsibility to explore our relationship with nature and our surroundings,” Devlin said. “I work with Chanel because I know they take a similar view. I’ve been working with them since 2016, since the first time I met [house perfumer] Olivier Polge, so I’ve experienced that dedication for several years. I feel really supported by them.”
