  • Take your favorite bag of corn or tortilla chips, mix in some taco meat, and add toppings!
  • Served straight from the bag with a fork or spoon, walking tacos are minimal in prep and cleanup but big on tasty taco flavors!
  • Walking tacos are as much fun to make as they are to eat and are perfect to take on picnics, BBQs, or road trips!
  • Create a walking taco DIY bar with single-serving bags of chips, cooked taco meat, add-ins, and toppings plus some plastic forks and spoons for easy cleanup!

Ingredients in a Walking Taco

Tortilla or Corn Chips – Use single-serve 1 oz. bags of chips. Single-serve bags of Fritos, Doritos, tortilla chips, or even veggie-based chips can all be used. Keep a pair of scissors handy for cutting open the bags for easier prep.

Meat – Plan for ¼ cup of meat per “taco”. Ground beef is the standard, but even ground chicken or ground turkey can be used. Drained black beans, pinto beans or cilantro rice are perfect meat-free alternatives or can be used to bulk up the meat.

Seasonings – Season with ready-made packets of taco seasoning or homemade taco seasoning mix (a blend of chili powder, garlic powder, & other seasonings).

How to Make Walking Tacos

This party menu favorite will be asked for again and again!

  1. Cook meat with seasonings.
  2. Gently crush the chips before opening the bag to create more space for the meat and toppings.
  3. Scoop in 1/4 cup of meat to each bag, then add toppings and stir with a fork before enjoying!

Make a Walking Taco Bar

Turn it into a walking taco bar by setting out your favorite taco toppings!

  • Freshness and crunch: Diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, black olives, corn, sliced green onions.
  • Spicy kick: Green chiles, sliced jalapenos, poblano or serrano peppers, homemade salsa verde.
  • Cheesy goodness: Shredded Monterey Jack, crumbled cotija, queso fresco, shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Saucy toppings: Sour cream, guacamole.
  • More goodies to add: Lime wedges for a squeeze of lime juice, extra jalapenos.

What to Serve with Walking Tacos

Start the meal off with a quick taco dip for snacking! Walking tacos make a great side dish or main dish, depending on the occasion! Serve them alongside a big bowl of Corn Salad or with Mexican Corn (Elote).

A big pitcher of Lime Margaritas or fresh lemonade is a great refreshing drink with this recipe.

Q&A With Kevin Kalinsky, MD

By Kevin Kalinsky, MD, director of breast medical oncology at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, as told to Alexandra Benisek  In the WebMD webinar “Triple Negative Breast Cancer: How We Are Learning to Treat it More Effectively,” Kevin Kalinsky, MD, director of breast medical oncology at the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University, answered viewer questions about TNBC and its treatments. We don’t have clear data from any of the tumor subtypes about stress and how it affects the development of cancer. There’s some preclinical data, meaning data in the lab, that’s looked at stress hormones and the risk of cancer coming back. But again, those are preclinical data. And that hasn’t necessarily been translated into how we can care for people with TNBC. When I speak to people about stress management, it’s important for us to think about the impacts stress can have, period — on our overall well-being and mindfulness.  There’s data suggesting this link between mind-body connection and the outcomes of someone with TNBC. However, there haven’t been clear data about relationships between stress hormones and risk of recurrence — and whether that can help lessen the risk of cancer coming back. When we treat people who have triple-negative breast cancer, and if we give them systemic therapy, it’s to lessen the likelihood that the cancer comes back. This includes lowering their risk of a metastatic recurrence of triple-negative breast cancer (when the cancer has spread to other parts of your body).  We think more of the risk of other cancers happening if someone carries a genetic predisposition like the BRCA gene. With BRCA, there’s a risk of breast cancer, including with BRCA1 and the link with triple-negative breast cancer and, for instance, ovarian cancer. So if people have a genetic predisposition, depending upon what that is, there may be a risk for other cancers as well. There’s data that looked at people who took supplements during chemotherapy. We saw that the more supplements people take, the worse their outcome. And it may be that these are interfering with some of the treatments that we’re giving. There’s certainly been interest in turmeric. But I would say that, in general, whenever you’re taking supplements to make sure that you’re talking with your doctor. It comes down to a case-by-case basis. For example, there was a study that looked at giving a supplement, L-carnitine, to see whether it lowered the risk of neuropathy. We actually saw that it made the risk of neuropathy go up.  This is the most common question we get in breast cancer. There are ongoing studies that look at nutrition and exercise and whether this can help with better outcomes, including in triple-negative breast cancer. We’re waiting for the results to help us answer this question.  I would say that it’s always helpful to speak with your nutritionist, even outside of breast cancer recurrence, just to health have a healthy lifestyle. And I’d say, in general, everything in moderation. Yes, it’s an excellent question and something that’s important for us to continue to evaluate. I think it’s been one consistent finding over the years, and also just puts emphasis on the importance that people — in particular young women who are non-Hispanic Black — maintain getting their screening mammography and stay up to date with those images. Especially if they have a strong family history. I don’t know if inequities are related to prevalence. But for outcome differences, this remains an important question in terms of social determinants of health.   That’s not just for triple-negative breast cancer, and not just for non-Hispanic Blacks versus non-Hispanic Whites. The differences can also be seen with urban versus rural communities.  This is an extremely important question in terms of access to care. And even when somebody has care, whether there’s a difference in their level of care. We know there can also be differences in communities in terms of the rate of mammographic screening. Bruce Springsteen Took a Tumble During His Amsterdam Concert – Billboard

Bruce Springsteen had a moment that fans, bandmates and promoters dread when, during a concert in Amsterdam last Saturday (May 27), the rock legend had an on-stage fall.

The accident happened mid-performance, as the 73-year-old artist returned from a stint in the pit and tripped up the stairs while carrying his electric guitar.

Springsteen appeared to have a soft landing, as members of the E Street Band rushed over to check on him and help the Boss to his feet.

“Goodnight everybody,” he yelled to the audience, as he gingerly made his way back to the center stage.

Thankfully, it wasn’t the end of the show. The incident happened during “Ghosts,” early in a set at Johan Cruijff Arena that numbered almost 30 songs, and included classics “Born In The U.S.A.,” “Born to Run,” “Thunder Road,” “Dancing In The Dark,” and more.

Stumbles aside, Springsteen has enjoyed some glory days on his current European tour.

During his trip to Ireland, he caught up with former Pogues singer Shane MacGowan at his home in Dublin, and was spotted hanging with some townspeople and having a pint at The Burrow pub in Rathangan, Co. Kildare.

On a visit last month to Spain, Springsteen welcomed on stage former First Lady Michelle Obama and actress Kate Capshaw, wife of director Steven Spielberg, for a rendition of “Glory Days.”

And the stars came out for his performance at Rome’s Circus Maximus, with the likes of Sting, Nick Cave, drummers Lars Ulrich (Metallica) and Nick Mason (Pink Floyd), and actors Woody Harrelson, Chris Rock and Isla Fisher spotted in the audience.

Springsteen has been prolific of late, dropping news the albums Western Stars in 2019, followed by Letter to You in 2020, both peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart. Last year, Springsteen released the R&B covers album Only the Strong Survive, his 21st studio set (peaking at No. 8).

Gallerie dell’Accademia Wins Image Rights to Michelangelo’s ‘David’ – ARTnews.com

The Gallerie dell’Accademia has officially won the image rights to Michelangelo’s David sculpture following a lawsuit in which the Gallerie sued an Italian publishing house for using the sculpture’s image without permission, according to numerous Italian news sources. According to  ANSA, the publishing house superimposed the David’s image on a picture of a model “in an openly advertising key.” The court ruled that the image of Michelangelo’s David “must be authorized, all the more so if the use is for advertising purposes.” Related Articles The price for infringing on the image rights is steep and two-fold. Because the publishing house didn’t ask for permission and didn’t pay the Gallerie’s licensing fee, patrimonial damage will cost the company €20,000 (roughly the same in USD). Another €30,000 in damages are owed for the method in which David was portrayed.  According to  Finestra sull’Arte, the court ruled that the publishing house “insidiously and maliciously juxtaposed the image of Michelangelo’s David with that of a model, thus debasing, obfuscating, mortifying, and humiliating the high symbolic and identity value of the work of art and enslaving it for advertising and editorial promotion purposes.” This is not the first time Gallerie dell’Accademia has sought legal action against companies who use images of works in its possession without permission, though public domain protections vary by country. Earlier this month, the Gallerie stopped the German toy company Ravensburger from producing puzzles featuring Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man and fined the toymaker €1,500 per day from when the 1,000 piece puzzle began production in November of last year. Similarly, Italy’s Uffizi Gallery last year sued the fashion designer Jean-Paul Gaultier for using Botticelli’s Birth of Venus on shirts, blouses, skirts, health and t-shirts with damages expected to top €100,000. In each case, the court’s decision was based on a correlation of two defining articles of the Italian constitution: article two, which “guarantees the inviolable rights of the person, both as an individual and in the social groups,” and article nine which “promotes the development of culture.”  According to Italy 24, the court said that the superimposed image was “detrimental to the image of cultural heritage as an expression of the cultural identity of the nation” and therefore violated the “collective identity of citizens” of Italy. David was recently at the center of another scandal after a Florida charter school principle included a full-body picture of the sculpture in a syllabus, leading some parents to complain that the work was “pornographic”; the principal ultimately resigned under pressure. However, she and her family were invited later by the mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, on an all-expenses paid trip to view the statue.
